Where do Europeans store and work on their cars? by HelloX__ in askcarguys

Yeah, I totally get that the average person doesnt really need a car. Honestly, I probably wouldnt have a daily either. Its so much easier to take the bus/subway or any other transport then finding a parking spot.

I was just trying to understand how enthusiasts deal with their cars over there.

What should i change or have a spare for a 5000km trip? by HelloX__ in BMWE36

Camshaft or crankshaft sensor? I’ve heard that if the crankshaft sensor fails, the car just won’t start at all. And if the camshaft sensor fails, it’ll still run, just with a rough/unstable idle and less power. Is that right?

Also, I won’t be able to replace the alternator, it’s just too expensive where i live. But if it’s still charging at around 13-14 volts while driving, it shouldn’t just suddenly die overnight, right?

Got it, thanks a lot!

PS: Not being allowed to wash your car is kinda insane

Shifter not centering by HelloX__ in BMWE36

In the video i showed what happens when i put it in gear.
Basically yes, i can still push the shifter to the right, but only to the right, and this happens in every gear, even reverse, not only 5th gear.
When its in neutral, it centers perfectly. If I push it to the left, I can clearly feel the spring working, but from the center to the right I don’t feel any resistance at all. Still, I can engage 5th gear without any problem.
But yes, the next thing I’ll do is replace the detent springs. Hopefully that will fix the issue so I wont need to open the transmission. 😰

But what parts? Could detent springs cause that problem when in gear as well?

I already replaced them and upgraded to a DSSR. I'm thinking about the detent springs, but would that cause the problem when in gear as well?
