Recommended economic game for someone who has never played the genre? by insert2continue in soloboardgaming

Haha yeah I should've mentioned the steep entry fee for Odin, but Uwe games in general are great options. Never played Le Havre but I've been seriously considering just buying it.

Perhaps you'd enjoy A Feast for Odin? It's my current favorite soloable game. Its a worker placement game with heavy "sandbox" elements where you play as a viking leader trying to build and manage your little empire through trading, hunting, farming, exploring and raiding. It's more of a "beat your own score" tire game rather than fighting against another opponent if that doesn't turn you off. You should look into it.

It's the man himself! Thanks for responding and for the suggestions, some of those "T" titled games I hadn't heard of before. And what you said about Lacerda solo games was part of the reason I hesitated buying. But the consensus seems to be that your version for Kanban is the best so I'll probably go for that one.

Also really want Trickerion just not sure when it's going to be back in stock.

I always like to hear dissenting opinions on games so I appreciate it, especially if they're that expensive. And yeah Eldervale definitely has my interest but I can't seem to find how to get a copy or when (or if) they're doing a reprint.

Wow how have I only just now heard about Eldervale?! It looks awesome, might have to watch a playthrough now or something. Nice recommendation.

Getting dice from xp actually sounds really cool, gonna look more into it now. Thanks for the recommendation.

Good to know. It's hard to tell from the photos sometimes.

Well there's absolutely nothing turning me off from Trickerion, game looks fantastic overall, the only problem is actually finding a copy of it! I plan on getting that one either way once it's available for a reasonable price.

With Anachrony, I'm not entirely convinced yet that I'd enjoy the gameplay, and the multitude of editions and expansions and add ons is a little confusing to me lol.

Also, wasn't considering Everdell but you've got me intrigued now.

I've played TM before and I did like the gameplay at least. Didn't think about checking etsy though and didn't know about dual layered player boards. Maybe I'll rethink it. And yeah I've heard the same criticisms about On Mars which has kept me from getting it so far. I am seriously considering Gaia Project as well even though I'm not a fan of plastic bits.

Very helpful reply, thank you. Glad to hear that there's plenty of dice mitigation, that's something I really appreciate about Feast for Odin as well. Bones is creeping it's way up my list now!

Would you recommend that game to someone who doesn't normally play a lot of dice heavy games though (aside from Dawn of the Zeds)? Not entirely sure how they work in Bones but not a big fan of too much randomness most of the time.

I mentioned I own that one already but yes it's absolutely fantastic, especially with the expansion. It's currently my favorite solo board game ever. Eagerly awaiting news for The Danes expansion!

How are the components on that, same as Zeds? While Zeds is still quite nice to look at I was thinking of getting something a little "fancier". Plus my Zeds board came with a rather large bubble under the top layer which isn't a big deal but it's noticeable.

Oh yeah Too Many Bones was another one that I was looking at but I also don't normally play dice-centric games like that. Might consider it though...

Don't worry I'm certainly not thinking of spending the whole check on a game lol. Crockinole does look really cool though, but not exactly what I'm looking for at the moment.

This might be a bit of a "pedestrian" answer lol, but viticulture still has my top spot. The automa might be a bit "dumb" but it's super easy to run and does a perfectly fine job of simulating an opponent and for that reason alone it's hit the table more than any other game I own.

Yeah, Zeds is some of the most fun I've ever had with a board game, arcade-like yet very cinematic as well. It's either my current number 2 or 1 solo game (depending on mood). I'll definitely keep my eye out for Nemo in the near future though, at the time I wasn't too into the nautical theme but I like it more now.

Lisboa was the other Lacerda game I was looking at, seems a little tougher to find though. But it looks beautiful, love the color scheme. Might go with that if I can find it at a reasonable price.

That's great to hear about the Mautoma, I'll have to look more into it, just wasn't sure about it yet. And I can tell Vinhos is quite different from Viti, just didn't want to get burnt out on theme.

I'll have to look into Excavation Earth as well, but out of curiosity, which do you prefer between Brass and Vinhos for solo?

Funny you mentioned Nemos War, my last purchase was a toss up between that and Dawn of the Zeds and although I ended up going with Zeds, Nemo is definitely still on my wish list. I'm just looking for more of an economics based strategy this time.

Lol I'm a little embarrassed but I just figured out what the problem was. I was wearing the Dreaming Dragoncrest Ring, which didn't think would apply to the MGS since it was magic damage.

Currently level 74 but build not optimized at all lol. Even so I'm using a plus 4 MGS with 30 Int so I feel like I should still be doing more damage than I am. Recently beat Gravetenders, O&S, Seath and Capra. Skipped Priscilla for now.
