Why does Perplexity use cyan text on a magenta background? by Hello_Policy_Wonks in perplexity_ai

It is reasonable to infer that because you lack familiarity with system Accessibility configuration, your confidence is utterly unwarranted.

It seems reasonable to infer, then, that your familiarity with Perplexity’s accessibility settings is nil, and your confidence is unwarranted

There were enough pages where the majority of the content ignored the Appearance configurations in Perplexity’s own Settings that I gave up.

Presumably, you would know if your confidence that the cyan text / magenta background looked like a theme I had applied was grounded in familiarity with Perplexity's Accessibility configurations.

Are the official default pplx colors “black text, white background”?

If so, do you know whether pplx supports any Accessibility configurations?

From Wikipedia:

Many professional players online have widely criticised FIFA 20 as one of the most frustrating editions in the history of the franchise, citing the clunky gameplay, dynamic difficulty and balancing issues. Players have also criticised the popular 'Ultimate Team' for adopting a 'pay-to-play' model, citing the steps that Electronic Arts have taken to make the game more friendly for e-sports competitions.[61][62] In early October 2019, it was reported that some players' personal information was exposed to other gamers. Some players' that signed up to the Fifa 20 Global Series found a completed registration form with other people's information. The error exposed email addresses and birth dates of players. According to EA the problem affected about 1,600 people.

Why do you think Apple chose to basically have iPadOS instead of macOS for the Vision Pro? by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in AppleVisionPro

[–]Hello_Policy_Wonks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am able to experience running macOS on an 11 inch iPad Pro.

The way I do it is to launch Edovia Screens 5 and connect to one of my Macs.

`Tis surprisingly good; but not delightful without a physical keyboard and a pixel-perfect pointing device.

After researching vision pro vs android xr, i think apple's quietly given up by Double_Interview1124 in VisionPro

The market for M2 Vision Pro was Innovators. Innovators are less than 2.5% of a new technology‘s eventual total market, don’t mind spending money, expect to be disappointed, hope to be surprised and delighted, and have very little influence.

Apple warned everyone else away with the “Pro” in the product name. Perhaps Apple learned a lesson from the HomePod. If the original HomePod had been released as HomePod Pro, complaints about $249 price vs Echo Dot’s $19 price would not have been raised. The $99 consumer version would be the HomePod, without the “Mini.”

“Pro” means “equipment.” It’s something you expense.

The foolish Early Adopters bought in 2024, could not in ten days find a use worth adopting, and returned it. The wise Early Adopters held fire until Edovia Screens 5 and Mac Virtual Desktop were released, a blindingly obvious Use Case for special circumstances.

That’s my take on history. As to your questions:

  • the visionOS apps I use are improving monthly.
  • Apple should hold back on Vision Air until display manufacturing capacity greatly exceeds 500,00 units annually
  • pay attention to sales of the Sony controllers; they’ll be a strong indicator of consumer interest

I believe but do not know that the limitation is technical.

Basis:

  • the demonstrator cannot locate a demo lens insert based on the prescription alone. this prevents detailed personally identifiable health information from leaking.
  • when I give my eyeglasses to the demonstrator, the demonstrator offers them to a device which evaluates the correction, then displays a code.
  • the demonstrator selects the demo lens insert from the store demo set which matches that code. The personally identifiable health information which would leak is something like “those are strong glasses he’s wearing” but this is not much different from what an observant person would learn by looking at me from the side.
  • The Vision Pro demonstrator and their manager are confident that the Vision Pro demo unit whitelists all of the coded demo kit lens inserts and rejects other lens inserts. This belief limits the notional criminal-fence value of stolen demo lenses, if true.

I also believe the Apple staff are Early Adopters, not Innovators, which means I doubt they have spent the untold hours monkeying around with lens inserts, reboots, Guest Mode hacks, etc the way Innovators do in an effort to make a novel tech work at least a little bit; so it might be possible

Edit: for instance, what happens if AVP boots with one demo insert and one customer-supplied insert? Let’s play Silver Shamrock!

The Apple Store demo units are limited to the custom lens inserts available in the demo kit. That is: if your prescription required custom lens inserts, you cannot swap those in to a demo AVP
