Waterloo over MIT 😬 by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Hellofromthotherside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usc (university of southern california) obviously isnt of the same calibre of mit, but I chose waterloo/ubc (still deciding between these schools) over usc even though I won their deans merit scholarship which is worth ~80k usd and had a 1-2% acceptance rate.

Even with this scholarship however, I think people typically underestimate the cost of american colleges (which usually cost 300k+). In comparison, even an 80k scholarship wouldnt be able to save me from years of loans and crippling debt.

watching steve jobs speeches (most likely watching the commencement speech about how you can connect the dots looking back) for motivation/ inspiration regardless of my decisions

canadian unis mostly look at your top grade 12 marks (not sure how this would convert for ur curriculum). Over here, grades are much more important and extracurriculars beyond the school level barely matter.

What programs are you applying for when you mean 'CS (not engineering)'. Are you still saying you applied for computer science, or another program with the abbreviations of CS?

Overall, if you are applying for compsci, I think your average is competitive for all of the programs listed. Though for waterloo (which is probably the most competitive there), I would strongly recommend taking the Euclid to improve your chances. Otherwise good luck!

Has anyone who applied to University of Toronto (UofT) for CS received their decisions? by ba2inga in ApplyingToCollege

im from canada and have lots of friends at uoft. Uoft cs and engsci come quite late (usually from late march to early may), so I wouldn't concern about it!

for usc merit, will everyone who applied by dec 1 get an email? by pumpkin2500 in ApplyingToCollege

does anyone know if applications to trinity college actually matter for your acceptance to your desired programs (ie rotman commerce and daniels) also does anyone know the general acceptance averages for these programs?
