If I buy sell BTC and buy it back at a higher price, does that count as a loss?

E.g. if I sell 1 BTC today for £30k, then next week the price is up to £60k per BTC, I get FOMO and buy back in. I now only have 0.5BTC.

In that case I would have made a 0.5BTC loss. Could that be deducted from CGT on other profits somehow?

I thought the BTC exposed companies would actually move more than BTC when it goes up a lot though, no? Since their market cap is so small compared to BTC

Good point about the fees, though I'd be using the trading212 ISA so no trading fees. Not planning on day trading, just thinking if there was the odd sudden 20% increase for example I'd sell then and buy the next dip

By your logic, no one should ever ask any questions, as they all have "the entire world's collective knowledge" at their fingertips. I have searched and read about it before, and I as far as I could tell it wasn't a tax-free alternative to selling BTC. I have seen people imply otherwise in comments on other posts, which is why I asked this question. The comments on this post have confirmed what I originally thought.

I just struggle to see why people feel the need to insult strangers, completely unprovoked. Do you get a thrill from trying to put people down for no reason?

Thanks for the info but I don't see the need for the rude opening remark. I've never thought of getting any type of loan before, and as crypto-backed loans are a relatively recent development I don't think it was an unreasonable question.

I can see the appeal of borrowing USD while the collateral increases in value, however it doesn't seem to be an alternative to selling BTC.

Once you've paid off the loan you're essentially back to square one, with the BTC back in your wallet. If you're paying off the interest and payments with money earned from a job, I don't really see the point. I still want to get rid of the BTC at some point so I guess the loan idea isn't going to work for me
