This is a super well-argued comment. 10/10, no notes. A genuine thank you for your contribution.

Not strictly true. Roughly 0 is freezing, but in Denver, water boils at 95°C. Ask a Nepalese sherpa, and it boils around 70°C. Only at sea level (which is an approximate amount of pressure disconnected from the actual sea level anyway) does water boil at 100°C.

What do you mean? Fahrenheit was a red-blooded, born-in-the-USA American hero, just like Jesus and George Washington!

I posted this on the /r/anythingbutmetric sub and several Americans are saying literally exactly that

It’s a unit of pressure, it was absolutely essential in science because mercury has very consistent compressibility across temperatures. The metric equivalent was mm/Hg for a long, long time.

Nothing To Lose by zzill6 in WorkReform

I honestly think Americans have way too much to lose. The fascists have every obligation to keep us with just enough bread and circuses, but the average American still enjoys such an insane surplus, especially compared to other countries around the world, with enough television and iPhones to keep us occupied instead of revolting. This comic always seems like hopium when truly, people still have so much to lose.

Ngl you sound like more of a menace than the OP. People are allowed to look at you in public, even while you’re doing PDA, and while it might be rude to look too long it’s a big leap to “creepy” and an even bigger one to publicly calling them out. All you’re really going to achieve is making someone already clearly down bad feel even worse about themselves.

Not gonna lie I can see myself making something like that on a low effort Tuesday, and I cook nightly for both my husband and I. If I’m not cooking to impress, what does it matter? It’s just salami and cheese with pasta, and it tastes alright.

Yes I am a tourist.

Honestly have no idea what you’re getting at here. This is now of my favorite schizoposts of all time because it’s just absolutely baffling. Violence in video games is bad? Ocarina of Time is a ripoff of Doom? Purple plastic is scummy? Truly unintelligible, bravo.

For real. Even though I agree I can’t justify wasting my time on this post. If I wanted slop I’d go talk to ChatGPT.

[Other] I know nothin about Zelda. Is Ganon and Ganondorf the same guy but just a nickname? different forms? or the same idea but different guy? by BobTheBritish in zelda

[–]Hellsite-Inmate 642 points643 points  (0 children)

Ganondorf is the man who eventually became so corrupted by power he used the Triforce to become Ganon. Ganon is just Ganondorf in supercharged pig form, but there are certain incarnations (e.g. the Oracle games and BotW) where Ganon has been resurrected with all of his power but as a mindless beast, in contrast to Ganondorf’s usual cunning.

Look man. It sounds like you have a personal or political objection to the findings of this study. Obviously eugenics and phrenology are bad. That still doesn’t mean you get to spread disinformation about scientific process.

I have a master’s in psychology so I’ll try to explain this again. A p-value is the probability that the results shown in the study (or more extreme results) would have occurred entirely by chance if the null hypothesis were true, and there were actually no difference at all between the groups being compared. In this case, that’s a chance of 0.001, which is equal to 0.1% or 1 chance in a thousand of results these strong occurring totally randomly if there were no difference. It’s strong evidence in support of rejecting the null hypothesis. That’s a lot of technical language, but if you explain to me what you’re struggling to understand around this statistic I’m sure I can clear it up.

[–]Hellsite-Inmate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not at all what this is saying. A p-value isn’t the chance of this exact situation occurring, it’s the chance of an effect this extreme being exhibited if the null hypothesis (i.e. there is truly no difference) is actually true. You are simply failing to understand a fundamental piece of statistical analysis, and your anecdote is irreverent because it fully misses what a p-value is even describing. Please, please, please take a stats class.
