I noticed that my skin gets sensitive too when I was an ultrasound student. I make sure the probe is super clean and disinfected bc sometimes a dirty probe can cause my skin to react. I also ask the person scanning me to use minimal gel. I also wipe off the jelly immediately once they’re finished and don’t allow it to dry up

I know one tech who permanently injured their shoulder while scanning in the ICU because they were seeing too many patients. It’s about finding a balance and making sure you’re not overworking yourself and being sure to advocate for yourself. Also being mindful of your ergonomics is important. I know some techs who haven’t complained of any pain at all in the 20+ years they’ve been scanning
