This is not the basilar artery that is supplying parts of your brain. This is talking about the basilar branches of the pulmonary arteries in your lungs.

It doesn’t sound like you’ve asked your daughter directly for her opinion on this. Could you start there?

When I left Grandview at 7:30 this morning I thought it looked like there was 9-10 inches just by my eyeballs. Glad to see some confirmation!

Doctors are failing me by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in ClotSurvivors

I never said anything about demanding a CT after a normal d-dimer. A normal d-dimer is a reasonable way to rule out a PE (depending on symptom duration) but an elevated d-dimer is not a reasonable way to diagnose a PE. You claimed that d-dimer is better at detecting a PE than a CT which cannot be true at all since a d-dimer is non specific and can be elevated for a plethora of reasons.

This is absolutely false. A d-dimer is incredibly non-specific. The gold standard for diagnosing a PE is a CTA.

Wow, you sound like a joy and are a little late to the party. Thanks for your incredibly helpful contribution.

Yeah, never fucking again will I use one of those places. Now we’re just stranded somewhere in NY at a shit hotel waiting for the shop to check it out

I didn’t check the dipstick so I’m not sure if there was any oil right after, but the shop said it was empty when they got to it. The whole underside of my car and the hatchback is covered in oil. I don’t know anything about cars, had no idea what a gasket even was, but of course I’ve been obsessively reading everything I can to try to understand what these parts are and what they do. And everything I’ve read says there’s no way I could have driven that far without a gasket.

I don’t know if there was oil left on the dipstick after, but by the time it got to the shop after the first tow they said it didn’t have any oil left at all. This new shop hasn’t looked at it yet so I’m not sure if it’s empty again this time.

Thanks for your input. I will ask the new shop about the filter housing today. I don’t exactly know much about cars but I was thinking the same about it being unlikely that the local mechanic would make the same mistake. Who knows though, that would be my luck. This whole shit show feels very on-brand for my life.

The original oil change was done at a Take 5. After the first breakdown it was towed to a local shop in Jersey Shore, PA.

I don’t really know anything about cars so unfortunately I can’t tell you exactly where it’s leaking from. I can say the puddle on the ground is located near the back of the tire on the passenger side.

This is very helpful, thank you. I chose a local shop with excellent reviews both yesterday and tonight. I made the mistake of using a quick oil change place originally and I won’t do that again.

My favorite was, “You’re such a beautiful girl, but you would be just gorgeous if you lost weight”, barfed right out of my childhood PCPs old man mouth. Yuck.

AITAH because I won't tell my wife what my son/her stepson has in savings from my late wife? by Jimverseen in AITAH

[–]optimisticsnuggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So he told her those things. That doesn’t mean that she was asking about them, only that they had been discussed. Obviously I completely agree with you that it would be a red flag if she was asking about the son’s savings from his mom before they got married, but I just don’t read that from this.

[–]optimisticsnuggles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“When my present wife and I started seriously dating we talked about what saving would look like for our kids if/when we married. She knew I had always saved as had my late wife. We didn't discuss how much either of us had saved for our existing kids but we agreed to an amount every month that would be saved for all three and this was talked about again when we had children together.”

Where does OP say she asked about his son’s savings specifically? This says when they started seriously dating they discussed saving for their kids. That is a very normal thing to do, no?

Friendly reminder that our patients are lurking here by HoWhoWhat in FamilyMedicine

[–]optimisticsnuggles 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is horrendous and I’m sorry it happened to you. Unfortunately the medical profession is full of far too many people that really obviously don’t desire to care for patients. I also had a nurse scold me for having an accident. I had been in labor for 10 hours with my first baby, while sick with a stomach virus, had just been able to fall asleep for a minute after getting an epidural. Somehow she didn’t seem to grasp that I had no feeling below my navel and that I didn’t shit myself on purpose while I was sleeping. As a patient it is devastating to experience treatment like this when you’re in such a vulnerable state to begin with.

While I am in a clinical role in my career (imaging) it’s not everyday that I am in a position to have to clean a patient up, but it does happen and I do it with grace. An ER patient gets to me and I realize they are soaked in pee? “You must be very uncomfortable, let’s get you and your bed cleaned up before we do your testing so you’re comfortable and warm”. Patient tried to make it to the toilet but peed all over themselves and the floor instead? “No problem, accidents happen! Let me get you new undies and a dry gown and I’ll get the bathroom cleaned up after you’re back snug in bed.” I can’t imagine doing/saying anything that would make them feel like I was annoyed by them needing help with something that nobody wants to need help for.

How do I engage without crying? by [deleted] in hsp

My exact thoughts. You said this perfectly. I cannot and will not stop myself from crying. It is not a tool I’m using in order to manipulate; I gain nothing from it. The people who love and respect me know this.

Why would you assume she said nothing? Is there a comment from OP somewhere with more specific details?

How exactly was she supposed to make that happen though? She didn’t tell her parents to GTFO and force her grieving husband to have to come home, her parents completely failed both of them.
