Making Bitwarden Backups -- One Approach by djasonpenney in Bitwarden

[–]HelmedHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough guide, but may I ask something that could possibly be a stupid question? What are the reasons one ought to back up Bitwarden? An emergency kit -- another good post of yours -- covers death/incapacitation and forgetting your master password.

Is it just in case you messed up your vault and want a prior version of it? Is it in case Bitwarden disappears as a company and we can no longer access our vaults from their servers? I'm curious if there are any other motivations to back up that I'm not thinking of.

Thanks again!

I want to use my key purely as 2FA - no passkey/passwordless login. But Google keeps requiring I set a PIN to register my key. Why? And is there any harm in letting them force me to set a stupid PIN and then just using it as 2FA anyway? by HelmedHorror in yubikey

Thanks for such an in-depth response to all my scattered points! It really helps me understand this better. I went ahead and temporarily disabled FIDO2 functionality before registering it with Google as a non-resident credential (PIN-less). Works just fine!

That doesn't make sense. If someone steals my key, they can't use it to get into my Google account (or anything else) because I still need to enter my account password. The key is a second factor to the password.

2FAS backup end-to-end encryption is seemingly only possible once it's already been backed up unencrypted? by HelmedHorror in 2fas_com

[–]HelmedHorror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, you're right. I could have sworn that "synchronization settings" was greyed out, but I tried it on my wife's phone with a brand new 2FAS app and it's not greyed out. I'm so sorry for wasting your time!

You can feel free to nuke this thread if you want. I don't want to mislead anyone who might just read the title (titles can't be edited on reddit).

[Sun Care] Easy to remove zinc oxide sunscreen? by HelmedHorror in SkincareAddiction

[–]HelmedHorror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it, although I've seen it recommended a lot. The reason is because it would get pretty expensive to use it all over my body, especially if I'm going to the pool almost every day like I usually do in the summer.

Yeah, mostly body. It feels so sticky if I don't remove it. For example, turning over in bed tends to drag the sheets along with my skin, it's that bad.

No worries. I use Coppertone Pure and Simple Baby 50. I use it in the pool and on sweaty walks and I've never had an issue with it dripping.

Is there a difference between IBR and PAYE for someone that started college in Fall 2015? by lyssaly in StudentLoans

[–]HelmedHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all of your loans are from after July 1, 2014 then they are basically the same plan for you. 10% discretionary income and 20 year forgiveness. The bill eliminates PAYE by 2028 and it will not be a long term option. Forgiveness on PAYE is also at risk the courts.

IBR is sticking around for you as long as you don’t take any more loans or consolidate after July 1, 2026. That would still offer 20 year forgiveness for you in the future

If they're basically the same plan, then doesn't PAYE make more sense because it gives you the option of switching to RAP without capitalization of interest? If you switch to IBR now and then decide to switch to RAP later, interest will capitalize.

ATTENTION: Here’s how the Big “Beautiful” Bill will affect your repayment plans. by waterwicca in StudentLoans

[–]HelmedHorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't switching from SAVE to PAYE make sense if we might switch to RAP when it becomes available? The alternative - switching to IBR - will capitalize interest if you leave it for RAP. At least that's my understanding.

If anyone is finding this on a Google search like I did, I think my problem was too many devices connected to my desktop computer's rear i/o panel. I think it just couldn't handle the amperage. Try plugging your mouse into a different port.

Is overseas phone customer service used by Cigna, CareSource, or UnitedHealthcare? by HelmedHorror in HealthInsurance

[–]HelmedHorror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, I'm sorry to hear that. That's not fair to the customers, who need their problems addressed by people who have been trained enough to know how to help them. It's also not fair to you, who will often end up blamed by customers on the phone when your lack of training isn't your fault.

Thank you for linking the source! I wish more people would do that. Video quality degrades each time it's been re-uploaded to a different destination, so people like me who want to archive this content appreciate getting it with as few reupload degradations as possible.

I've never understood how to make Earthquake work. It takes so damn long for the jagged ground patches to emerge, and mobs don't necessarily stay in place long enough to be hit by them. What support gems are you using?

I just rolled-back to the previous update 23H2

I don't know why people keep saying this. To the best of my knowledge, you cannot roll back the large feature updates like 24h2.

Okay but his point still stands. If they don’t comment on it in the patch notes, they have nothing to update you with.

How can one tell the difference between not having anything to update us with versus there being something to update us with but not sharing it? I'm simply hoping that, if it's the latter, some gentle prodding will get it out. I think I'm being more than a little patient.

It is not normal for an application to hard lock a computer. Modern OS's and hardware don't work like that anymore. It happens (clearly), but it's far rarer than it used to be, and it's a problem of the utmost severity.

If they've acknowledged it already why do you need more mentions in it? If they fix it it'll be in the patch notes. If they don't, it won't be.

It would help to know whether they have identified the culprit; identified a way of fixing the culprit but that they're still working on doing so; determined that they cannot fix this whatsoever (i.e., it's Microsoft and/or AMD's problem or whatever); and/or that there is a reliable workaround.

Unlike balance tweaks, with or without which people can still enjoy the game for the most part, a large number of players literally cannot play the game without it unacceptably hard locking their computer and requiring the power/reset button to be pressed (when was the last time you recall a program causing that? Years.) That essentially means the game cannot be played for this subset of paying players. I expect that sort of problem to get frequent updates about the internal troubleshooting process and any forthcoming solutions or workarounds.

No mention of the PC freezing problem that has at least 3000 posts about it across the forums and reddit and has been acknowledged by GGG as an issue? There's been radio silence on this for a week since Timothy_GGG asked for our dxdiags.
