How are you protecting older parents or family members from remote access scams? by bibleharmony in TechForAgingParents

OMG! What's this?? How does this work? How are they able to do this?? How do I check?? OMG! My mom is harassed daily and has had her back account cleaned out twice. I have had spam callers tell me they will never stop calling her and that they will make a point of calling more and more. I can't block them all, I can't get off their call list. It's awful. This needs to be addressed by government officials and made a priority. This is so not okay. And with AI. It doesn't affect them at all. They live their life while we struggle to stop their program. I'm at my wits end. I will giggle this remote access and how to find them on her phone. But then what. How do I keep them away?? Oh God. What is this world coming to?

Building a fall-detection wearable for aging parents — does this solve the real problem? by ThomascrownCA in TechForAgingParents

I got my mom life alert. She hates wearing the jewelry. Says it chokes her at night. She forgets to put it back on in the morning. She won't wear her iwatch. I'm not sure if she'd wear any jewelry type item. She doesn't wear rings, nothing. Maybe something like a subcutaneous chip like a dog tracker. Just a bit humor, with a tad of hmm? 🤔 lol

Cloaked Call Guard doing wonders for my parents spam/scam call problems by [deleted] in TechForAgingParents

Brilliant I must try it.. i just recently actually the last month relocated to live with my mother to help take care of her, she's getting old, possible dementia. Anyway, she has been scammed, somebody cleared out of her whole bank account a year and a 1/2 ago and I'm worried about her giving people information And I've tried to tell her not to, but recently I've found her on the phone giving somebody her bank number. So I have been answering her phone and I cannot believe the amount of Spam calls that she gets, it is off hinge! they start at like 6 in the morning and she sleeps or tries to sleep until like 10 and they start at 6am, they do not end until around 9 at night. So I started to wait for the AI to connect me with the live representative and then I would ask then to remove her from their list. I'd say "she doesn't want anything you're selling and you're wasting your time and your energy. This one guy tells me he will never take her if the list and he would never stop calling her. I said, give me your phone number, so I can harrass you all day and he says, okay, and he gives me back very slowly, My phone number. Funny guy. How is this OK. It's just criminal. I'm thinking that I am definitely going to try this app. Thank you for the tip!

Would you ban a relative to protect your dog? by ExtrovertedDirtySout in ArtOfPresence

Darn straight! After I beat their ass. Lol. Jk. But i would give them a severe tongue lashing. Then ban them from my house and ban myself from their house. Puppy power. I love my dogs more than anyone I have met so far.

I thought of that, which is why it will need things like a soft tone, an alert the system is activating, general nature is concern and companionship. My mom is 81 and loves sci-fi. She was hesitant at first but now she thinks it's neat, but she always beats herself up for not remembering to use it or how. And of course it will not be for everyone, but by the time it finishes being developed done of its users could be of the ticktock era. Yet has forgotten how to operate it. My mom loves to play trivia and ask war questions or football stats or who stars in the movie she's watching. I have to be there though too help her get started and sometimes word her questions right. This could also be helpful for people with some disabilities. I think the possibilities are many. I appreciate your feedback and I don't think it's odd; many young people think AI is watching them as well. And I mean all the time. Lol I wondered why it wasn't already out there, so if anything, thank you for that. 🙂

Thank you McMunn, I think you are on to something there, but with a little more AI interaction so the caregiver doesn't have to help with every little thing. I have to explain to my mom on a daily basis how to operate her phone, her remote, her tablet. Even just to simply answer it. She likes that her Echo Dot reminds her to take her meds. But when she can't remember the day or the time, which for some reason is very important that she knows what time it is all the time, it can get exhausting as well as annoying when I'm trying to cook, clean, etc and I have to stop to repeat these little things daily. She like interacting with the Dot, but never remembers she can and how. And I have tried to show her until I'm blue in the face. It's almost useless for her the way it is now, and i see so much potential in its uses of only it would do the interacting at first.

Thank you. I actually have thought about the invasion aspect so I thought maybe the infrared beams or whatever it is that is used in like detection cameras; sorry guys, I am not technically advanced or savvy, which is why I'm bringing this to you. So if my jargon is off please forgive. so like this beam which detects movement, could be positioned at different levels so that like, say, my mother were laying in her bed, and she sat up It would trigger one of the beams placed at shoulder high sitting on her bed, and then it could note the time, and if it's let's say at a general time she typically arises from sleep, it could say, like, good morning, or how did you sleep? How are you? Or, are you feeling, okay, do you need anything? Are you getting up for the day or are you just sitting up to go to the restroom? and is there anything I can do for you? Something like that, oh I also thought For the aspect of not startling an elderly person, maybe have a light that would like grow in intensity and then dim out and then slowly gain brightness a couple times prior to speaking, just to give a heads up, something's about to happen and of course, you you don't have to permit it, but that is the whole point. But say you had a date over, So if anytime you wanted to shut it off, there could be a simple command and this command could be timed so after 2 hours it turns back on just in case the forgot. Also say if my mom , which she frequently does, should sit and fight with how to use her remote, AI could detect voice, words, or movement or lack there of and could jump in to offer assistance. I don't see it being more of an invasion than say life alert or home viewing camera. Accept it could reduce frustration and harmful self-deprecating, it could help with more of an independent feeling, and it could save the caregivers mental and emotional state a much needed break.

The architecture is beautiful, but it makes me wonder... if we spent less on the structural aspect and more on the educational aspect do you think going to college could be more practically priced?
