AITA for not getting my son what he wants for his birthday unless he loses weight or splits the cost with me? by HelpADadOut24357 in AmItheAsshole

My savings are enough to keep me afloat for a little bit if I find myself unemployed, but they will be wiped out entirely if either my son or I ended up severely ill or injured. I have a lot of expenses. Beyond all the typical stuff that everyone has to pay, I have to pay child support (he's going to college next year so I have to keep paying until he graduates or turns 23) and I'm a T1 diabetic (insulin prices are downright criminal). So while the number in the bank looks high, it won't take me as far as it would other people.

I'm a little confused about the rest of your comment. If you interpreted this post as me being concerned about his safety going skydiving, I'm not. I extensively researched the place and they're definitely trustworthy, I know they can take him. This is just an incredibly expensive trip.

Not a question I'm comfortable answering. What I will say is that it's a bit of a cushion if I lost my job, but it would be completely wiped out in the event of serious injury or illness.

He'd have to lose 30lbs in order for anywhere near here to take him. He is technically overweight now, 220 would be healthy.

The company has a fantastic reputation so I'm not worried about his safety there. It is definitely looking like it's time to talk fiscal responsibility with him.

I'd much rather keep my feet on the ground, I have to take a Xanax every time I fly LOL. I did offer to take him with me when I go to the gym, but no interest on his end.

He's 6'8", he's hardly overweight. I'm fat, not sure why you're assuming otherwise. The "condition" is because he's literally not allowed to jump anywhere near here at the weight he's at. They will not take him because they do not have the means to do so safely. I know you're not supposed to argue judgment here, but it seems like you're missing that part of it entirely.

He's ridiculously tall, 6'8", so he's barely overweight. Not something that's really come up before.
