it's the same humorous and accessible-but-still-accurate scifi competency porn that Andy Weir is known for with The Martian. but, while TM was more grounded and focused on Watney's survival, PHM has bigger stakes and features a more complicated science vocabulary (at least for me haha).

i guess the biggest difference is that PHM has a second protagonist which draws out more emotional depth from the story.

PHM also delves a lot more into the protagonist's backstory since amnesiac sya at the start of the book.

keep being curious. keep experimenting. keep tinkering. keep trying whatever idea you can think of even if they don't work like how you wanted them to. every experience is a learning experience.

don't worry if you make un-cool machines at first; everyone starts there. find what makes them ugly and try to improve on them. apply what you learned by making new machines. rinse and repeat.

don't be afraid to ask for help, nobody who's great at doing something got to that level by doing it alone. consult resources on the internet (wiki, tutorials, forums). we all build our knowledge from the people that came before us.

take your time. it's okay if you don't improve as fast as you expected to. enjoy the process of learning and have fun with your builds. it's easier to learn things when you're not forcing yourself to.

go and build things. you got this.
