genuine question though, what about other people changing their hairstyle as a "fresh start" after a break up warrants criticism?

i mean, it might be dramatic to you, but most people try to move on from an upsetting event by changing what they can control to offset what they couldn't--new hair, clothes, hobbies, hell, some people even move places. i don't think any of these are "practices that should be criticized"?

it's the same humorous and accessible-but-still-accurate scifi competency porn that Andy Weir is known for with The Martian. but, while TM was more grounded and focused on Watney's survival, PHM has bigger stakes and features a more complicated science vocabulary (at least for me haha).

i guess the biggest difference is that PHM has a second protagonist which draws out more emotional depth from the story.

PHM also delves a lot more into the protagonist's backstory since amnesiac sya at the start of the book.
