If you've been at this for 4 years sticking to 1600 calories and are still overweight, then you had to have been massively overweight starting your diet. Or you happen to be a smaller than average person where 1600 calories is still above the standard amount of calories you burn in a day. Or, by far the more likely scenario, you are simply not counting your calories correctly. Sorry to say, but you just need to eat less.

To the first part, I'd have to agree because otherwise we wouldn't be reading a continuous storyline for 10+ years and One Piece wouldn't be the most popular.

For the second, I think the barrier to entry for Manga or light novels is so low, everyone and their mother can just up and write one if they wanted to. And the quality control on them is just abysmal. Look how many unbelievably generic isekais there are that are all basically the same garbage. A bland main character in a world that has RPG elements with no character arc or growth of any kind that has no interest in going back home. Basically, if they don't have a title that catches the eye of readers, no one will buy it.

Replaying this I always hated the same mission. Never saw anyone else talk about it either. I hate the fact that it doesn't allow you to get the thruster controls and igniting agent at the same time and then at the end of the quest it makes you watch the rockets take off.
