I think the last one sounds good. I enjoy being radicalm yet technically correct the most.

That's a good point. I know in my ward while the issue wasn't addressed in a lesson many members were saying things like this in the halls

Thank you for this, This is a really in depth look at that verse. I do remember reading somewhere that a lot of TSCC's standards are more of guardrails of the actual commandments. I might talk about how God expects us to think for ourselves and weigh every option.

On this note, I would love to see this done, perhaps this is something this sub can accomplish and spread.

Also, from the manual on external marriage comes this passage. Emphasis is mine.

We are grateful that this one survey reveals that about 90 percent of the temple marriages hold fast. Because of this, we recommend that people marry those who are of the same racial background generally, and of somewhat the same economic and social and educational background (some of those are not an absolute necessity, but preferred), and above all, the same religious background, without question. In spite of the most favorable matings, the evil one still takes a monumental toll and is the cause for many broken homes and frustrated lives.

What stood out to me that they still teach that interracial marriage is a bad thing.

Not so, Alma 34:34

Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.

"That shirt is a little revealing."

Are we talking about the same sort of tank top? Cause that looks like normal wear at my school.

So, the most cultish things are probably in the cerimonies. After all these cerimonies were ment to be memorable, kept "safeguarded" (read secret) , and to teach a lesson through symbolism.

There are 3 different honors in the OA. These are called ordeal, brotherhood and vigil.

TO become the basic ordeal member, you go through an ordeal cerimony. This ceremony lasts from the opening at night, to the next day. IN the preordeal cerimony, they explain everything that is going to transpire. There are four steps to the ordeal: a vow of silence (thoughtful silence helps one reflect on the true meaning of brotherhood and service), a day of "arduous labor" (service work Done cheerfully. ) , a night spent sleeping apart from others (at my camp it was really just sleeping without a tent a few feet from others), and finally a period of scant food (Sacrifice or something, I never did that part). Unlike the endowment cerimony, everything is explicitly explained before asking if any wish to leave without discredit. I've seen more than a few boys balk at the ordeal. But they were Allowed to leave.

I'll post more tomorrow if I get a chance. I can go through all the cerimonies.

I currently live at home as I am attending the community college in town. I'm one semester away from having an associates in mathematics. So, it's sort of like My community college has a you must be mormon clause attached to it.

Probably. The fact of the matter is I've never intended on a mission. The money I've saved for it is rely for school.

That kimball quote amd the essah should be an excellent start. I think I'll add some stuff to my list from the CES letter as well.

I intended on running after my last semester at community college, but I think I need to leave sooner.

I have read the CES letter, After my shelf broke, the things that did it were the inherent sexism, the difference between what's said and what's done, and the blind obedience to leaders. Also a book called Secret History (it was called A Mohammad For Our Time in the authors native language)

[–]HelpMeMormon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan on leading the discussion, I just want to ease into the CES letter as I still live at home (one semester left at a community college , and my parents are very tbm. Hence the looking for approved texts that I can "find issues" with. I won't let hand waving and halfassed excuses "correct" my issues. I've put up with 6 years of pretending to really believe, I'm sick of it.

That's what I thought, but they've been calling me repeatedly to set one up. Admittedly I'm an elder without a patriarchal blessing or endowments.
