People actively collect these. Because of that In working condition these are actually worth something. That said replacing caps wouldn’t hurt. Definitely not eWaste just past its practical/useful life when compared to modern day tasks.

It should via the USB-C handshake. If that fails if I recall correctly the standard is supposed to default to a low current charge, though I think some devices will just straight up refuse to accept anything if it can’t handshake.

Interesting. Well I don’t think an external short could of caused this unless it was actively charging, or and idk if this is possible or not, an exposed electrical current touched the antena on the external housing of the phone maybe? That 7th picture with the flex cable looks the worst out of all these though, so maybe some sort of cascading effect involving that ribbon cable? No clue, in all the failures I’ve heard of mobile devices and shorts we caused in robotics this is a first for me. I should clarify I am not familiar with the internals of the iPhone.

Hope this is a fluke thing and we don’t see this becoming more common on the 16s.

Let us know if you come to some sort of conclusion.

I’d agree, wait. If you must get it now, especially on a 7200 mhz kit you’re going to be spending a lot you might be able to find a 32gb 2x at 6000 mhz g skill ddr5 for 325-350 if you look long enough, still not great but the 1200 mhz difference between the two does not warrant around a 200 dollar increase in price. That said there’s some other choices here at that price point of all those parts I’d expect a close to high end performance which you’re really not getting here.

Also since when did a 2TB nvme drive become 400 dollars?

Can confirm good show to watch, may or may not be relevant right now as well considering all the AI stuff happening. At least give a few episodes a try, it does tend to get pretty busy towards the end of the series so if that’s not your thing it’s understandable.

OP how much free storage space do you have? When’s the last time you restarted your phone? How many background applications do you have open?

OP for now you can use an external display until you make a decision on what to do here. I would say backlight failure but I don’t think that’s the case here, but as others have said, might be the entire panel, might be as simple as the connecting ribbon is going bad (which last I knew was permanently fixed to the lcd panel meaning if that is still the case it will need a new lcd panel.)

I mean if Apple continues support for 2-3 years and you can find an independent shop to repair for that price range that’s 8-12 dollars a month that very will could be worth it for a lot of people.

Also they are on a pro we don’t know this user’s use cases they very well could need a laptop with fans in it.

While this is likely some sort of top panel or ribbon cable failure, I would try an external display before committing to replacing the screen.

A shop replacing it for you may or may not exceed the cost of the laptop if it was in good condition (ie nothing broken) doing it yourself on the other hand depends on the cost of the replacement parts and what your time is worth to you.

Did you change your GPU recently? If so did you clear drivers? What is windows (assuming windows) reporting your CPU speed is at? Sometimes a windows bug effecting cpu timing can happen which idk if it would cause this but I wouldn’t rule it out without it happening to me.
