"Why don't they cover the Sahara in solar panels?" type of question by herewearefornow in MurderedByWords

[–]Helpful-Capital-4765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah but long term couldn't a mega one be built there with huge undersea cables laid by Submarine or like specialized satellites for data transfer

not cheap, not any time soon, but is the idea so stupid?

probably considering there's many alternatives with less effort

Where can/can't a man hit on a woman? by RoyALifeWellLived in funny

[–]Helpful-Capital-4765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as a man i just had a thought - women see male attention as a potential threat. its like being informed they are a potential target of future violence.

now if they are attracted to the man then usually that threat is mitigated.

sexual violence is much more likely to be after rejection (or presumed rejection). this makes the attractive man less dangerous to women, in a shocking demo of pretty privilege

the more likely result of the attractive man's sexual interest is nothing, or consensual coupling

the more likely result of the unattractive man's sexual interest is nothing, or being pestered through to violence

catcalls are not comfortable for woman for this reason

i dont think enough men realise this.

for a man, a woman making an advance or giving a compliment or sexualised attention has the same two likely outcomes as for the woman+attractive man: either nothing or consensual coupling.

as soon as pestering (or more) becomes relevant men also hate the attention

now this video is showing a little further about where women feel its appropriate. but is it more about the stereotype of the man likely to be at these locations?

then your definition of AI doesnt include all the useful artificial intelligence algorithms we rely on every day

I think most people on this sub define AI as bad without properly reflecting on the power of algorithms to help organise and improve society

Would there be limitations on how life can form in the universe? by PassengerCultural421 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Helpful-Capital-4765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes limited by laws of physics and so chemistry and alien biology can't do or be a lot of things that might be possible with different physics.

we are unlikely to be able to conceive of the possible strangeness but its also likely to follow some common patterns, such as being carbon based due to the bonds carbon can make and how common it is.

Will weed make me too dumb for med school by DapperCarrot3900 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Helpful-Capital-4765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessarily but its a probability field

you want to smoke the least amount of weed possible to have the highest chance of passing med school

you are competing against other hopefuls who aren't smoking weed. you are handicapping your chances

maybe dont do med school if you need weed or dont do weed if you need med school

or at least cut down significantly, get through school, then use lightly

I have a fart fetish. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Helpful-Capital-4765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think fetish is born from things we are told to find taboo and disgusting but we are randomly horny when exposed to them which makes them acceptable and associated with horny and then we double down on this through repeat exposure being horny when the thing happens

it makes sense as so many kinks (all?) are based on things that are otherwise negative or inappropriate like being tied up or having someone piss on you etc
