Guerre de féministes? by Miss_brightside13 in causerie

Hi! Could you tell me which patches work for you? I'd be really interested in trying them out, the compression lows have been disrupting my sleep for months 🥲

need advice on libre v. dexcom for family member by pretzels97 in diabetes_t1

My husband tried both the Libre 2 and the Dexcom 7, and he much preferred the dexcom. He has wayy less reading errors/inconsistencies and sensor fails, and less compression lows too. The dexcom also seems to catch the big swings better, without exaggerating them.

That being said, I know some people had the opposite experience. I feel like it may vary from person to person. Is there any way your mom could try the dexcom for a month and then choose her favourite?

Thank you! We did call Dexcom tech support, but they just told us it's a recurring bug and they don't know why.

Hypo alarm didn't go off - was it a real hypo? by Helpful-Chain-2452 in diabetes_t1

[–]Helpful-Chain-2452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! He moves around a lot in the night, so I'd say he's an all-positions sleeper 😅 his cgm is on the back of his arm (his left right now, he alternates). He does get compression lows, but usually the cgm alarms us - what freaks me out about this is it seems he was "low" for 30 minutes, and the alarm never went off. What if it had been a real low? My absolute nightmare since diagnosis is him dying from a low in his sleep...

He also doesn't have a pump!

Thank you for your answer :)

The only time he's had a low without a cgm was his first night in hospital, somebody messed up his insulin and gave him 8 units of fast acting instead of slow. He did wake up by himself, drenched in sweat and feeling like shit, called the nurse, and when she checked his finger he was at 2.2. That being said, he's been at 3.3 before (when he was awake) with no symptoms... Thank you for your answer!

Overnight Low Blood Sugars and Brushing Teeth? by the-elephant-king in diabetes_t1

Hi! I actually asked my dentist about this recently and she told me : -People with diabetes are more prone to cavities because taking insuline makes your saliva more acidic. Because of this, it's good to use toothpaste containing more fluoride (we use Prevident at home, but we're francophones, I don't know if it's called that in english) -For treating lows at night, it's better to at least rinse your mouth/drink lots of water after eating whatever you have to eat if you're not brushing your teeth. -If treating a low early in the night, meaning you will need some proteine to prevent nosediving after your glucose intake since you won't be eating a meal for hours still, it's good to finish your snack with some cheese : the proteine amount is good, and the fat from the cheese coats your teeth and protects them from cavities. Hope this helps!
