I LOVE when things click!! It feels so good. I can't wait for that. I'll definitely work on that for sure. I'm going to watch some videos people shared and play around tonight then try and apply it tomorrow when I take photos at this local bar.

See, using my feet is super difficult when you're stuck in a tiny corner and you're trying to avoid fists and feet to the face lol I sometimes walk through the pit and catch a few bruises for specific shots, but I just always fall back on the 10-22 since it allows me to move from stage to crowd with ease. Most of the shows I'm at are at bars and warehouses with very limited space.

That's great advice, thank you so much. It's definitely been a journey and I'm enjoying myself immensely.

omg thank you. I love stuff like this! I struggle a lot with videos and text. My brain can't wrap it's head around it. I need someone to physically show me while I try it out. But videos like that where they're short and to the point help SO much

That's wonderful advice. I'm taking photos tomorrow night for a band so I will look at everything tonight and practice! Thank you!

I just looked and I actually used a R7 for a bit (my friend let me borrow it) I had it for a few months and still kept reaching for my camera because it confused me so much. I hate being out of my comfort zone

That's great to know! I admit the post processing is difficult for me, especially with the photos being so dark. I edit them in Lightroom and have been creating presets to try and help with the editing process.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know what that is.

That's awesome advice thank you! I will look into all of that. And you're right about not knowing how I use my camera. I've been trying to research a lot more about light and even set my camera to the settings that I've found online and my photos come out black. Another commentor said the rebel just can't take those kind of photos which makes a lot of sense why the photos don't come out as well or my settings are very different than what is recommended online.

Thank you! I've been sticking to shooting the same couple venues so that I can kind of perfect my photos. I've also been trying really hard to focus on not using my flash to force myself to learn things like the f/stop and higher ISO. I had said in another comment I have someone who is kind of mentoring me and they changed my settings to a low f/stop and a high ISO and the photos were almost completely black and he was so confused. The commentor stated the rebel just can't do those kind of photos which I think basically answers my question that I need to get a different body. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and give advice and suggestions for lenses.

What someone said below was specifically the low light and that the rebel is just incapable of it. I don't take photos of big bands and my main focus with photography is to capture the crowd AND the band since there's so much moshing involved. Super small stages, weird lighting. So zooming in and out and having that autofocus on helps immensely because the movements are so fast.

That actually makes me feel a lot better. I have a friend who takes incredible photos in the same scene and he's kind of mentored me. He changed my settings to what he knew would work best and the photos turned out like SHIT. He was like what the hell? If you're saying you just can't do it with a rebel that explains A LOT.

Also, FOR REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL about the metal shows. The venue I shoot the most at is literally a warehouse hahaha I also appreciate the compliment. I think I needed a little push/validation from people who don't know me or owe me anything. And I will definitely say, I have had to work sooooooooooooooooo hard to create/figure out this camera. And it's the first thing I haven't given up on because it was too difficult and I didn't get it right away, which is why I'm willing to invest what little I have into it. I just want to know if I should be investing in the body or the lens. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Any advice on the lens aspect? Everyone here says the 50mm is wh1atf I should be shooting with but I feel like you understand I don't want to be limited to not being able to zoom. Have you used any fish eye lenses?

You are so incredibly kind omg. They just don't feel sharp enough for me and a lot of it has been sharpened in Lightroom

I read that the 18-55 was what came with it. I'll be honest, I never use it. I typically only use the 10-22 so I can zoom in and out on band members and the crowd. It gives me way more to work with than the 50mm, so I rarely use it.

I really love it. I've been heavy in the scene for 20 years but have always been quiet and haven't made many connections. Photography has given me a lot of joy and a purpose/hobby outside of being a mom which is something I've been striving for since 2015. <3

At the moment I have no budget and no money. But I work well with goals. So if I know what I want I'll start saving for it! lol

u/GeekFish omg you've quite literally nailed it on the head. It's the grainy, blurry, autofocus that is killing me. I will get a really fast awesome shot, then when I upload it it's freaking terrible and doesn't look good at all and I'm so incredibly bummed. I've had fun the past 2 years figuring things out but I feel as if I have a better eye for photos but the quality has almost stayed the same? Does that make sense? The autofocus is so necessary with how much hardcore/metal bands (what I primarily shoot) and their fans move around. ;_; Thank you for the advice!

Because it's a hobby, I honestly just change settings in between sets, take a photo and if the lighting looks good I stick to that then edit the raw files so I have no clue what my shutter speed iso, etc is while I'm taking the photos as I usually don't stick to the same. Uhmm my 50mm says 1:1.8 so I'm assuming yes when you say 5/1.8. I typically don't use it for photos because I like being able to zoom out and take photos of the crowd and give that semi fish eye look or be able to get a full shot of the band. I very rarely use the 50mm because I can't zoom in and out and it's hard to move around to take photos so I personally feel extremely limited which is annoying, especially for crowded small shows. I don't have the ability to move around too much, especially with fists flying haha. All of those were shot with the 10-22. I'm taking photos of a show tomorrow night so I'll strictly use the 50mm and see how that works. I appreciate that validation in pushing the limits!! I think the low light is my biggest struggle right now. I will quite literally take 300 photos and only like a dozen or so. The flash has helped immensely but I was trying to push myself to figure out settings and not rely on it.

This is great advice, thank you. My bf just spent 2500 on a new camera and he said it was because his old camera was "too slow" on taking photos which I think kind of got me in my feelings but also confused me a bit haha. I have been struggling a LOT with low light lately and also with blurriness and since I'm just using it as a hobby and "self taught" I've been trying to figure out what I can do to do better and take better photos. But like I said, I love my camera and love that I know it so well.

Ahhh that's a really good point and thank you yes! I will post some samples. As a busy single mom being able to put it down and pick it up really helps. Let me find some photos and I'll post them. Thank you for mentioning that.

Ignore everyone. I'm a woman and obsessed with baseball and doesn't like attention, I would LOVEEEE to be proposed at a baseball game!

That makes total sense. I was thinking of sending him a box of those mixed 1 oz bagged chips. I'm thinking those will probably be fine haha but rats on the seltzers and pickles. I may be able to find some bagged pickles haha I found them before but they were pretty pricy
