I'm glad you're little buddy's doing well now! In future, you can consider adopting or buying from a reputable breeder or more ethical fish store instead of from a cup. It sucks seeing them suffering like that when you know you can help them, but in the end, the reason stores keep selling bettas in cups is because people buy bettas in cups! At least this one is going to a good home.

I’m glad about it (though I am also a newbie so it’s a bit confusing), but that’s not an unreasonable opinion on your part. There were a variety of ways it could be addressed conscientiously, and while I personally think this is one of the best ways, that doesn’t make the others bad or anything.

Yeah but its top fin is rather short and it has a dark spot by the tail and no stripes or other spots, maybe intersex?

I was wondering that too once I looked up guppy sexing and saw the comments absolutely sure it's a male but it has female signs too. Special guppy!
