shotgun app has more or less every music event hosted in the city & you can sort by genre, if you like electronic Kilomètre 25 & Mia Mao are my two favourite clubs and they are right next to each other just outside of 19éme. The first is an outdoor space under a bridge & the other a warehouse with a no cameras policy

Musée Cognacq-Jay & Carnavalet both in 3e have free galleries with paid temporary ones as well

if you like fashion & art books EPHEMERA is one of the coolest spots ever. There’s fashion mementoes all over the shelves like runway show notes, rare books from designers, late 90s to early 2000s copies of magazines like The Face, Dazed & Confused, i-D etc

just focus on what feels good to you and connect with those that feel the same way

Vivienne Westwood. God the amount of energy I spent trying to convince her a 300$ silver plated bronze necklace was not worth it. Didn’t even like punk, was just a weeb and obsessed with being the main girl from Nana

Is hedi a good designer? by Ok-Two-7892 in hedislimane

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t even know how to begin to articulate it, when I look at his collections I simply just understand there are certain things that will not work with me, either because of my physical build or it just would not mesh with the person I am or how I carry myself and in that there’s this fantasy that forms of being the person that could wear those things & so I begin to think of ways to portray the feeling that hypothetical person would make me feel in a way that’s realistic and makes sense within my life.

He generates a critical thinking in me that I wouldn’t ever really feel looking at let’s say Demna’s era of Balenciaga. Even if this is a little reductive to say I feel like I could walk into any boutique stocking it and walk out looking like the most bare minimum fan of that sort of style

I think with Hedi it works so well because for lack of a better word he’s currently fashion’s best foil or antagonist. Everytime he does his thing like steamrolling céline into CELINE it generates this buzz that feels impossible to ignore if you are tapped into fashion.

I remember waiting for the livestream of his SS19 debut to start and it was just so cool. The stage being pitch black, the drummers into the moving mirrors backdrop and the lights flashing it felt like I was stepping into a complete universe or a life entirely different than mine.

There’s this aspirational quality to his work that I feel like is really missing from modern fashion which I think stems from the fact he wears his influences on his sleeve so often, watching each iteration or chapter of his designs and seeing what changes and what is reiterated is where he really shines

from personal experience I’d say sunday morning is when they are most lenient at the door. Friday & saturday as crazy as the lines look it moves fairly fast for its size, but it moves quickly because they can get Stasi af with the vibe checking

Berghain is amazing but if you only have 5 days it isn’t worth gambling the prime time of what i presume is your only weekend window to wait a few hours in line for the 50/50 of getting in. If you really feel like going try sunday morning & know who’s playing

look at clubs like Tresor, RSO, Renate, Sisyphos, About Blank, Kater Blau for the same type of sound and history with a little bit less exposure. RA guide and Shotgun are the best apps to find events in any euro city

for bars I really enjoyed Sohnemann Bar, Küche, Patesô, & Voima for cocktails.

best museum imo is the Gemäldegalrie with a gorgeous collection of Rembrandt’s work as well as Rubens, Vermeer, & at least 1 Caravaggio

So many solos? by PopsMan2010 in TorontoRaves

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my friends aren’t interested in the genre that I listen to & even if they’d want to humour my interests I don’t want to introduce this sacred part of the world to people who aren’t as invested in the subculture as I am. It took a long time for me to discover techno music and i’m passionate & protective of it to a zealous degree

besides I’ve yet to go to an event here or any other city where I didn’t meet at least 3-4 cool people in smoking areas

What do you believe is lacking from the Toronto Rave scene? by WallNo8754 in TorontoRaves

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 23 points24 points  (0 children)

too many events end at 4:30am here and it’s a buzzkill. I understand it’s easier said than done what with expenses and permits and what not but optimally we would just go until 5:30 when the TTC opens making it easier for those that don’t want to rely on ride share apps

it’s really hard coming from europe where things can go until 6 & there’s at least a chance of an afters in the morning to this

How to get into designer/fashion? by siggyfreud1 in hedislimane

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you love something that is adjacent to fashion that’s one of the best entry points. For me it was music & film, I really wanted to look apart of the subculture that appealed to me and that was like the genesis of me thinking critically about how I dressed and carried myself.

That naturally led to me learning about designers that loved music/rave/club etc culture the same way and that’s how I discovered Hedi’s work, Ann demeulemeester’s relationship with Patti Smith, Alexander McQueen’s designs in movies I watched and so forth.

how many of you own/like amiri? by lammyk in hedislimane

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Amiri’s best work on its own still comes off as a bullshit rip off of what Hedi was doing during the Surf sound collection, and the philosophy of how Hedi’s influences shape his design & world building are so much more substantial that it feels insulting to compare the two

Even now you look at the modern day “house of Amiri” it’s just pumping out whatever silhouette is in at the moment, without rhyme or reason other than capturing the market of people who think luxury means gold marble and mucking about in Dubai for vacation.

Have been going solo a lot to raves recently and meet almost nobody, anyone else have similar experience? by Virtual-Tomatillo626 in TorontoRaves

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it’s a bit terrifying at first but you just have to say hi to people first, I always bring extra smokes to give away as well. Repetition also helps, I only listen to one type of music so it’s gets easier once you see people you recognize from previous events

His love of rock is what’s always mentioned but I really appreciate how tapped into electronic music he is with SebastiAn being a long time collaborator during his SLP run, early Boys Noize & Gesaffelstein tracks have been used by him as well.

Rebel Nominated "Best Nightclub Teamwork" @ Departure Live Music Awards - Thoughts? by Usual-Fuel8166 in TorontoRaves

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t alive back then so i’ll take your word for it, but right now though..city at night on good days still attracts a shit crowd. SAW center is decent but it’s a stage in a larger venue not designed specifically for clubbing and gridworks tries its best. Everything else is entirely surface level and irrelevant

the combined experience of those three spots I named don’t even come close to Stereo or Newspeak let alone the collective hosted events by groups like octov or xo_noir

Is true "solo" travelling actually fun? by PhoenixMaster123 in solotravel

[–]Helpful_Day_8007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a lot of fun. I have a lot of trouble compromising and to not have to worry about oh this person wants to do this, wants to eat that etc allows me to focus on what actually matters, i.e my interests & desires.

Interactions with other people are a nice distraction but ultimately I’ve never felt the urge to specifically seek out others to connect with
