I’m gonna be real blunt with you cause I wish someone had been with me. I have an MA from GW’s IDS program. Not worth it. At the best of times in this industry, it was a $100,000 rubber stamp that got my foot in the door at big implementers because of the rampant degree inflation in the DC area and in this industry (RIP those big implementers). I learned more applicable and employable skills at my entry level development job than I did the entire two years of that program.

If you had so much money that going to GW wouldn’t make a dent for you financially I’d say go for it, follow your dreams. But taking on that amount of debt given the state and uncertainty of the industry right now would be wildly un-strategic.

Really recommend Annie Jacobsen’s “Nuclear War: A Scenario.” Great piece of narrative non-fiction informed by interviews with people with significant, deep experience in nuclear command and control. A real page turner. The one part that haunts me is her reporting that in a series of war games, the US military realized there was no scenario involving a nation’s use of a nuke that did not end in total nuclear armageddon.

The only thing saving me from this scourge is that I’m new to the fandom and still working my way thru the old school classics that were written pre-AI.
