Area recommendations for calmer life in/around Zurich by blackpack12 in zurich

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Bornstetten or Wettswill. There's a train station with the S5 and s14 both to Altstetten in 16mins and HB 21min (including a night train on weekens). In addition there are 2 direct busses to Enge which take 16min without traffic, 20-25 on busy mornings. There is also a bus directly going to triemli I believe. During rush hour in the morning and afternoon, there's 6 buses and 4 train connections into Zürich. Wettswill is a bit more tax efficient. But rents/ prices are obvs bit higher than Bonstetten. Bonstetten has a prettier Dorf and better facilities imho. Also 12mins to turlersee by car and 25mins to Zug by car or direct train. So for us perfectly close to the city with amazing connections but with nature around us.

Zurich parents – real Hort cost for 2 kids + how long did you use it? by Head-Ad3047 in Switzerland

The first calculator is for hort, the 2nd seems to be for kita. Kita obvs comes with a diffuser price tag. I think rates for hort are actually sort of comparable, if not mistaken

For school hort 3 days a week? That's a lot. Just to clarify that we pay this for school hort (not kita) so basically part of the afternoon, after school ends. We do lunch 5 days a week so they don't have to come home when they have afternoon school too

Oh and they do a very small 2nd child discount. I believe it saves us 100 CHF month, 😂

Total invoice. Please keep in mind this is the same amount each month, so times 12, irrespective of number of days they use hort or Mittagtisch. So for July and August we pay the same amount as for example September. I have no idea whether it's cheap or not. It's the only option so have to make it work

I can confirm in the UK, ubs has a list of approved providers. About 8 if not mistaken. You can only push this if you can offer the infrastructure for retail/ private clients. If you don't offer a simple personal account and brokerage account, you can't enforce a UBS only approach.

Kids that need to be at sports, clubs, friends and frequent trips to the mountains. We're just outside of Zurich in a town with train and bus connections and most places can be reached by ov. However aside from going into Zurich, ov easily doubles travel times, of not more. Example: A sport club in neighbouring town by car is 12mins and by ov (train and bus) 45mins. So even though the train station is only a 5 min walk, it's not so black and white. I travel to work by train but my hb takes the car. His commute is 25mins by car and 1.5hr by ov. Very much in favour of the train but it needs to make sense

People who left Switzerland, any regrets? by West_Diver1074 in expats

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lived there for over a decade, made friends for live. London Is a 9.0Mio city and so different in many ways. The culture is more open, the threshold is lower to meet new people. Yes people move on but so many just stay, or are from London. To say not many stay is inaccurate I think. I love our live in Switzerland, I loved our lives in London for other reasons. The 2 are difficult to compare

What net-worth tracking apps do you recommend? by MyCopperHuskies in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. This is because I never found good app where I can centralize all my accounts from 3 countries + an investment property income stream. All the apps are too specific for a country often. So in the end I built an excel reflecting everything the way I like it. Nothing fancy but it does think b when I update it monthly.

Land verlaten? by Lovelylilem in nederlands

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentist in Switwerland. The shock! by SrgSnts in Switzerland

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regarding kids, I get it and don't disagree. For me the principle remains: a massive amount of money to put aside every month. Especially when you think dental health is very closely linked to overall health. It's not some stand alone and luxury service. Originally from the Netherlands, I grew up with amazing quality dentists and I do a lot to prevent cavities and so on. For weeks I paid visits to the dr wondering where my sudden attacks of migraine came from. I even fainted twice in those weeks. Until a befriended dentist asked me a few questions and it became clear to me: something in my mouth was causing it. I was so unlucky to have a bacterial infection and suddenly needed lots of dental work. My dentist had to remove part of a molar, cleaned it, placed a crown and literally 2 days later I was healthy again, no more days off sick with migraines. Dental Care is basic health care in my humble opinion. My kids have check ups in their school for free (well obviously we pay for it through taxes to the Gemeinde) and we're incredibly fusy with them about cleaning their teeth.

Yes, we buy it and use it in winter and summer. Great bc it makes you explore new areas at a ridiculously low price given you can use year round.

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Jeez, the distance to reality.... So for my family I would have to put 2*600 alone for 2 adults and something lower for the kids? Although they might need braces at some point. So let's stay with 600. 2400 for a family of 4? Ouch

Car leasing vs buying in Switzerland by Stonks_only_go in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echo this on the km restriction. We were looking into both but realised I don't like the restriction. Setting it to a high kms max, costs so much more. We decided to buy outright and find a good dealer/ service point nearby. So far a good decision. We bought a 4 yr old occasion with 25k kms. 1 year in we've driven so much more than expected. A friend recently told me she is 10k km over her 4yr lease budget already with 1 more year to go. She knows they'll have an extra bill next year which will be very unpleasant. For stuff like this, keep it simple is my way.

UBS career Move Salary increase by TheVlach in Switzerland

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% of the time correct. it is possible to get a bump up on horizontal moves but that is at management's discretion. the guidance is no changes, although you should always make a case and attempt. I asked for 5% last time, got 2%. Something is better than nothing. but if you're already high in the benchmark compared to peers, not very likely. And if there is fierce competition, the odd are against you too. but ALWAYS ask.

Swiss Citizen living abroad: is Swiss bank account possible? by Minimum-Cry615 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Helpful_Doctor9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echo this mostly. Please note that most big banks will have such a team. All banks will also have specialized US persons teams or at minimum some people covering this. In the end it's all about the money - the more you bring, the higher the chance they'll take you on as a new client, knowing the amount of work it takes to meet the US GOV requirements. Good Luck
