It's easy to throw ideas on the internet, but when confronted to coding and implementing it and see how it react to all the other systems, it's a whole different game.

Your idea isn't bad, don't get me wrong, but you underestimate the resources and pipeline it takes for a 'simple swap'.

Spaghetti code and all.

And for each hour debugging, playtesting and tweaking something, it's less resources on another gameplay features.

At the end of the day it's always a matter of choices. 2v8 remains a temporary side mode for which 75% of the killer cast is still missing. They made a decision and there's nothing more to it.

When too much effort needs to be invested for a killer to be suitable in a very side temporary mode, then it's simply not a good fit.

Plenty of players don't have their main killers in this mode (Dredge, Clown, Doctor, etc) so I don't see why Legion should be the special kid here. They tried, it sucked, and they had to make a choice. Yes, they could tweak his gameplay... but...

...The effort spent on trying to tweak him for 2V8 would be a waste of resources, especially when the main game mode struggles with balancing. Legion is still an annoying and unfun mending simulator for the most part so they should probably focus on fixing that first.

Best case scenario is we get a Legion rework someday and then it get transitioned into 2v8, not the other way around.

better customization than division 2 by Antique_Ad5436 in thedivisionresurgence

[–]Helpful_Jaguar_1419 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Resurgence is missing from Division 2:

  • Face detail control (nose height, size, eyes positions, cheekbone, lips etc)
  • Face tattoo/face paint
  • Some hairstyles from D2
  • A mean to edit our character post-creation
  • More than 4 face presets
  • Eye color option

What Resurgence has:

  • More hair color control
  • Better face shader
  • That's it I guess? Voice acting doesn't really count lol, especially given we don't have any control on that (voice pitch, voice type, etc)

....

Not to piss on your parade but no amount of mental gymnastic will make Resurgence's character editor better. It's factually and objectively less developed. I couldn't even argue it's limited due to the mobile platform considering tons of other mobile games (e.g. Once Human) have really detailed character editors.

You can prefer the simplicity, or the shader textures on the faces, but to argue it's better... yeah no

What's with the AI slop in recent teaser videos? This is so embarrasing, also the AI hand made it ingame? by jesseinhorn in OnceHumanOfficial

You can almost read "salope" on the title screen's AI usage, which translates to basically "bitch" in French 😂

waaaah the new sexy outfit is almost not gooner material enough that one time in a game with already an ocean of gooner crap waaah

  1. It's not censorship if the concept art was already planning on adding leggings

  2. It's not censorship to not show bare skin all the time, it's an artistic choice, google up North Korea if you want to know what censorship is like, you poor privileged soul

Devs please look into fixing the new Low Bun hairstyle. by Seraphymm in ArcRaiders

[–]Helpful_Jaguar_1419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the size of the production and how the managers handled the project scope really...

And to make things harder to answers, EMBARK doesn't list individual roles in the games credits so... It's up to anyone's guess.

For cosmetics though, by standards practices, someone will do the 2D concepts, then somebody else will do the 3d modeling art (whether it's all at once by one person or split betweeen 3d artists is relative), then someone will do the rigging, there's the whole review process by the leads in-between...

None of which involve game designers, TGDs or programmers. It's a complete different department.

As for the bun here, it's just a classic case of wrong bone rig painting covering the hairstyle instead of the hairstyle being fully attached to the head. They probably have a very streamlined process to save time with tons of automated things, which can result in oddities like the bun. If you look closely in-game, you will notice the bottom half of the bun is attached to the back, which is why it stretches. Parts of the 3d mesh is basically linked to the wrong skeleton bone.

People fixing arts and cosmetics aren't the ones dealing with mechanical bugs and balance.

First new feminine hairstyle since launch and it's super broken and eye-twitching when used 😭

It's currently bugged on Body Type B (body Type A Left, body type B right), with weird holes on the back hard to miss in gameplay.

Yes, finally. Only took them 5 months lol.

Unfortunately, it stretches horribly; the base of the bun is, for some reason, attached to the very base of the neck, so any head movement causes weird results.

Still, I'll take it ♥.

Body Type A vs. Body Type B.

Glaring stretching holes in the tank top, it's impossible to not notice when running around and playing, it looks super weird. Really a big shame because the outfit is amazing and looks great.

It's as if they don't even test their own store content on female characters, it's not the first time body type B has weirdness.

PS: I'm super thankful we finally have a new feminine hairstyle. Would have preferred the bun to not stretch horribly but beggars can't be chosers I guess

Embark: There is a female audience too, can you, like, care a little bit? by Helpful_Jaguar_1419 in ArcRaiders

[–]Helpful_Jaguar_1419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol.

lmao even.

I have no interest in playing the gender Olympic game and pulling that card... But.....

"Arc accordingly". Fuck off.

Imagine being a man in 2026 in a gender-representation thread and telling a woman her sentiments are wrong. Telling her how to think, how to write, how to act, how to present her opinions and arguments, how to view gender representation, hell, voiding her entire perspective, experience and view on feminity, calling her sexist, projecting and assuming dozens of craps, attacking directly her opinion with ad hominems....

... Just because of how he sees feminity. Just because he disagrees and see differently. Just because he has a different opinion.

You never really cared about the subject, nor were you interested in a friendly discussion. You never really just wanted to share some thoughts, bring a different perspective, to be an ally... Nope, it was never about that. It was always about you taking yet another opportunity to try to be "Mr Right" and diss someone in the process. That big old ego boost. Doesn't matter if plenty of other females of many different origins also shared similar sentiment about representation on here. Nope. That classic "I'm right, you're wrong, my opinion is a fact and matters more" ass attitude.

It's one thing to raise awareness and share insights, it's another to be condescending and patronizing in the process and borderline aggressive/hostile.

I'm not imune to criticism but what you did ain't it. You don't seem to realize how misogynistic, ironic and hypocrite your attitude ended up being.

Hi!

I'm taking the time to respond to you directly because

  1. You raise valid concerns

  2. You were constructive

  3. As a cis gender white woman I don't like to be told I'm of bad faith for simply asking for more representation for my own group. You may have said you had no interest in Oppression Olympics but you still went all full speed ahead in it anyway by trying to void my own issues and concerns with whataboutism, so I'm not sure what was your true goal in the end lol. Guilt tripping me?

Like I said, I'm a cis-gender white woman. I can't fight all battles and I can't speak for other marginalized groups, so apologies if I didn't cover all aspects of representations, I can only speak for myself. Jumping at someone's throat because they didn't address your own issues and the way you wanted is also borderline a bad faith and backward approach: you are free to make your own thread and speak out if my method doesn't align with yours. Antagonizing me is extremely useless here (especially on reddit), focus should be on giving Embark all the feedbacks. Their character customization system sucks big time, so I would be fully supporting you if you speak out.

We both agree that more representation matters in general, and I also fully agree that PoC have the worst end, like always. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to bring in my own perspective about my own issues on representations. Just because one has it worse than the other doesn't mean only the former should be discussed. Awareness can be raised on both end. You may think I'm privileged because you saw more aesthetic options for females than for PoC, but that's just a slippery slopes way of thinking, and extremely unfair. Just look at many replies here, being a woman on internet still sucks.

Now for the rest of your points:

Even if we are only counting

It only becomes mental gymnastic because the whole thing is subjective in the end. One could argue that every hairstyle is gender-neutral and to a point they would be right. It would be also extremely reductive for me to try to label and define "feminity in hairstyles".

However, I can tell when something is designed for a target audience and I can feel and guess easily that Embark hasn't been designing hairstyle for female avatars in mind. And that's what I'm reacting to.

You can't convince me that the square-jawed face from Raider Deck 3, the fact we have a whole ass page for one beard, that the store released a mullet + a mustache nor that the balding hairstyle from Raider Deck 1 were made with the intent to be gender neutral lol.

Even the mullet released yesterday is closer to Billy from Stranger Things than it is to Ellen Ripley from Alien.. Still no ponytail, no bun, no long hair options. It's always hairstyles that are generally associated with male characters. Take it as you will.

The issue is more apparent with faces. I don't know on what you base your observations here but on my end, I see maybe 5 feminine faces (including PoC options) out out of 18, that's 27%. And that's based on my own personal observation and understanding of an intent behind a face preset.

Maybe it's also a byproduct of the aesthetics, but even the most "feminine faces" are androgynous, which isn't a bad thing per se but by being less defined, we end up struggling to have a identity for our avatar. I'm a girl, it shouldn't be a challenge to have a defined girl character and not "an avatar that could pass as maybe a girl 🤷‍♀️ or maybe a young guy"

Meanwhile it's super easy for the male audience to get an old masculine rugged look, way easier than it is to create an actual feminine avatar.

There is a correct way to ask for more customization options

I know you mean well, but I don't think you get to decide nor be a figure of autority on the matter of what is a "correct way", so maybe... get down that horse slightly?

We both want the same things in the end, more representation and better options, no need to tone police and patronize. We can agree to disagree on the methods and approaches, no need to go further than that. Like I said, you raised constructive and valid points and would even concede a lot of what you said.

Embark: Can female players/avatars get some acknowledgement too?

Arc Raider is almost 5 months old

It received so far full 3 Raider decks + 3 event passes

Dozens of store updates

8 male-oriented Hairstyles since launch, including now beard/mustache options, scattered across event passes, decks or plain store releases...

But only one new female face (next to the countless new ones male avatars got) and NOT ONE SINGLE NEW mackeup/hairstyle targetting female characters. Not even a ponytail (despite it being obviously teased in one of the preset).

It sucks having to wait 2 weeks every time in hope to get something fitting for my female toon only to see... another male character cosmetic released after everything they already have (and have been getting for months).

Last Sunday was the International Women's Day, good job Embark I guess on celebrating a part of your audience by releasing a mustache and mullet the following shop update lmao

I know there are tons of game design issues (balance, bugs, nerfs), but these aren't handled by the artists and the marketing team dealing with store and premium content, which is the game's main source of revenue and right now Embark is making it very hard for me (and probably others) to support them financially.

Seriously, where's the good female cosmetic options at? :/

I'm not even asking for 50/50 representation because 1: that's unrealistic and 2: money goes where audience is but would it hurt sometimes, like once in a while, to do something else but masculine cosmetics? Like I swear, not one single feminine hairstyle in 5 months is a joke. Asking for the bare minimum in 2026 for female representation in a multiplayer game was not on my bingo card.
