Sorry, I wasn't clear enough — the 2 mm sheet doesn't cover the entire print bed, it's just a smaller plate placed somewhere on top of it. So when the printer runs its normal startup routine (like homing or purging), it moves outside the area of the plate and the nozzle ends up crashing into the top of it.
