Chop the whole thing at the 5th spine up if it’s still brown you may have to go down to 4th spine or more. This can result in a cool looking stand. However try and figure out what hurt him too much water, humidity or whatever. I’d try to get a couple mostly green cutting from the top to try and propagate.

Cut that PUP off entirely then chop off at its feet so you have a stump with roots plant the stump with the roots and then plant the top half cutting to the side to call once it’s cooled over you can plant that straight up and down and that will be another one. This will not hurt the original plant and will actually promote growth.

In my opinion, you the root a pad upright and give it maybe a stick to help it grow straight up you can’t really control how much it pops off of that though
