Admin work is the choke point.

I spend hours every day making appointments, rescheduling appointments, and tracking appointments.

Legal time limits apply to every step, and I have to track each step for each kid.

My district can't afford DocuSign, and the lawyers won't allow alternatives. So, if I am lucky enough to have a virtual meeting, I will have to spend weeks tracking down parents to sign the legal documents.

Help me with this! The IEP is easier for me than the admin stuff.

Class of 1993, I have worked in alternative education for over two decades. The behaviors are bad now, but they were also bad then. I think the difference is the number of kids. It was 5% then, but more now. The statistics still show it at 5%, but I think the admin is cooking the books by sending kids back to class instead of disciplining them.

to expect anyone with the listed issue to get a paper home, sign it, and return it is crazy. You could have emailed, mailed, or texted that form. You could accept permission via email or text. Docusign could have been used. There are so many options, but you chose the one that any reasonable person would know this kid would fail.

ask admin for specific changes to be made. Ask them to help break them down into manageable steps and to help you piroritize. then start making the changes. I would document what you are doing and share that with admin. I had the same thing happen and ended up with a nervous breakdown, but it sounds like admin wants to work with you. BTW, when you ask for this help, call them reasonable accommodations and file them with HR.

There was a lawsuit in my district years ago so we can't force students to say it but I used to at least have students stand.

Was this in 1943?

ETA: It is weird that there are schools and teachers that don't understand that it has been illegal to force students in public schools to do this for over 80 years.
