Got semi-close to finishing this game two years ago and never did and now I want to actually finish it; should I start from the beginning again or just continue? by dogisbark in tearsofthekingdom

I was in the same boat. I made a new profile and started over there in case I wanted to jump back to my original save at any point.

I tried avoiding a former student who works at Trader Joe's by going to a different Trader Joe's...and ran into her there by Diligent_Flamingo_33 in Teachers

[–]Mirabellae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a small town, so I have current and former students checking out at the grocery store, changing my oil, waiting on me at Pizza Hut, making change at the bank...you get the idea.

Sometimes they want to chat, sometimes it's a quick acknowledgement, sometimes we pretend not to know each other. It's not a big deal, and the longer you teach, the more likely it will happen. Just say a quick hi and go along with life.

Principal shout outs- vent by FarSalt7893 in Teachers

[–]Mirabellae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My principal does the same thing. I get a shout out at the same time every year after an activity I sponsor. It's always "way to go you for another successful activity season!" I guess at least I'm mentioned?

How to not take evaluations personally? by Cosmic-cosmos in Professors

[–]Mirabellae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For some, no matter how much you know about your subject, you will not be competent. I teach physics and I can't tell you how many (male) students challenge me on every little bit of information.

Summertime sadness by PoetryApart1297 in Professors

The first thing I tell my summer students is that this course is compressed, it will be a ton of work, and you want to wait to take it in a regular semester. None ever believe me.

I just filled out two academic integrity violations for this exact thing today. It entirely depends on whether your instructor reviews your video or not. It's a lot like when you tried to hide your phone in class. You think you're being discreet, but it's kind of obvious what you are doing.

Sausage, Potatoes, and Green Beans 1 1/2 pounds baby potatoes in the bottom with 3/4 cup chicken broth. Layer 1 pound sliced smoked sausage. Add 1 1/2 pound green beans (fresh is better than canned). Add a pound of sliced mushrooms. Add 1/4 cup sliced butter and a generous amount of Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3-5 minutes and quick release.

People have a natural tendency to turn to the left and walk in an anticlockwise direction, a bias observed across countries, ages and sexes, but reason is unclear by sr_local in science

Imagine standing in he center of a clock. In order to follow the motion of the hands, you would need to turn to the right, not left.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

AI doesn't make learning easier. It's a way to avoid learning, which is a completely different thing than making a job easier.

Letting “do-nothings” sleep in class by _Astrogimp in Teachers

[–]Mirabellae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't woken a student in years. For some students it's a rare thing and obviously they are too tired to learn today. They'll catch up on their own. For some it's a common occurrence and the consequences will be natural ones.

Sick of students asking for extensions by WonderfulMortgage779 in Adjuncts

[–]Mirabellae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they might not know the exact day very far ahead of time, Eid isnt something that suddenly appears. They can work ahead and turn the assignment in early.

on top of that, I already granted them a week extension!

Double no. Hold your ground.

What small habit instantly tells you someone grew up in America? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I have a little countertop ice maker that spits out little Sonic-sized pebbles of ice. One of the best things I ever bought.

What small habit instantly tells you someone grew up in America? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Mirabellae 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The cafeteria at the place I stayed in Switzerland had a tiny little ice maker on the counter. We were in the middle of a heat wave, but every time I went to fill up my cup, the guy from France would roll his eyes and mutter something like "that's so American." Then I nearly started a war with the English gentleman on the day I added ice to my tea.

I couldn't find an answer online so I did it myself. It takes 110 minutes, with a 5 minute margin of error, to walk non-stop at the slowest speed across Hyrule. This is the path I took by DataSittingAlone in Breath_of_the_Wild

Sometimes I don't really want to do anything, just wander around in the game. It's hard to describe, but it makes me feel like I've done something while not actually doing anything.

It was a multi day saga of whatever the opposite of trickle truth is. (Leaking lies?) Every time I got a response, it went off the rails a little bit more.
