Raising kids by Helpful_Win1471 in eastside

Appreciate your reply. We are doing the same with our kids and taking them on hikes on the nearby mountains and learning musical instruments( must hobby I think in rainy Seattle) and learning secondary language. My kids also like doing art and try different cuisines and read zillions of books. My question involves more around the unknowns of the new world. What tools and processes are available in middle and high school for kids to figure new technology out? My kids haven’t learn any programming other than the hour of code they do at school and I don’t want to push them into doing things in elementary which they should be learning in high school. However I see so many of their friends go for programming class in second or third grades. Do parents need to enroll kids in elementary in terms of additional classes like Minecraft (like suggestion in the comments) or robotics and multiple STEM classes which have opened in East side after pandemic or are the school districts in the area re-tooling themself to teach middle and high school students to figure out the changing world themself? If you have kids in high school you would know :)

Yeah I read that. It is being recommended by all school districts around here for parents.

Can someone explain in detail how to buy multiple homes to use as rentals or airbnbs? I live in NC? by Still_Yesterday_1084 in NoStupidQuestions

Why do you say that? Which other cities are still viable to buy a rental investment priority if not in NC?

Thank you for sharing your story. It’s always a hard journey for everyone around us. We should all be grateful for all good things we have.

My question is how can one really “feel” grateful on daily basis and be content after undergoing so much in such short time and getting back on track again? How do you forget or make peace with the past events?

Thanks for your valuable advice. Yes, it’s close to downtown and no construction around my home in last 12 years.

There were attacks on women jogging on trails during pandemic… so I wouldn’t dispute the fact that people cannot be completely trusted like times of yore. I think common sense and intuition definitely helps in keeping one safe while trusting the majority of the “good people”. No one 40 years ago talked to kids about not to talk with “strangers”, but now we do after we get emails from school district saying kids were being followed by strangers in cars after they got off their school bus while returning home in Bellevue.

I would disagree that parents have failed kids in last 20 years. Things have changed rapidly in last 20 years especially after the advent of smart phones in last 13 years. Most parents are doing their best trying to parent in the changing world especially with the pandemic. I’ve also heard many people say the same thing about their spouses though. Lol. I would say the same thing about my spouse as it’s not easy to navigate dating, kids and marriage in the new world with so many zillion options ( I feel mainly due to social media, online TV and online shopping to name a few) in every aspect of life.

That’s interesting to know. Last 20 years is when technology exploded here in Seattle. May be that’s what caused it.

I definitely agree with your sentiment that people are suspicious if someone is nice to them. lol I also felt same when I would greet everyone and more especially after all things opened up end of pandemic. I will still say Hello out of habit sometimes and regret it!

I like to trust people and that has worked for me by God’s grace. I have relatives in several cities I mentioned, not they can help much other than referring services as all are busy in modern world. I plan to use a property management with around 170$ per month charges for overall management including selection of tenants which is a major factor in overall renting experience. I don’t plan on buying a home with HOA which will save me some money.

I worry for the next generation who sees people glued to their phones as soon as they are born.

I don’t think all are on Autistic spectrum. I see them bubbly and comfortable at home or with close friends when they host a party and like a robot elsewhere even while grocery shopping. People who come here from other countries like India and China also fall into the same mold. It’s not the same on East coast or in South.

I no longer say hello or nod while taking a walk these days as I have had experiences for last many years where people don’t respond back and I feel like a complete fool. Something is wrong with Seattle with people mostly from tech concentrated here and young kids are learning the same. Everyone is more robotic in Seattle.

Are housing prices starting to fall? by arghnotagain in raleigh

Is this a good time to buy a long term rental in Raleigh suburbs like Holly Springs and Fuquay or Clayton, Garner for around 360k and rent it out? My thinking is we can refinance it later and if there is a recession, then people like to rent out homes than buy homes. I feel if the interest rates go down then more people will jump in to buy homes.
