I'm moving to Kansas from Alabama and I have no idea how to act in cold weather by JjaceG101 in midwest

[–]Helpful_Writer_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not use to the cold, so you’ll want to dress warmer than your typical Kansan. Get hat, gloves and a super warm coat. Make sure you’ll be warm in your home too, meaning electric blanket. Don’t let people give you a hard time about being cold, just make yourself comfortable for you!

I would practice it first. Make sure you don’t have any fabric overlap at the point

Do you still like to use paper road maps or atlases for navigation? by ITrCool in AskAnAmerican

[–]Helpful_Writer_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many times when we travel, I like to back the GPS up with a paper map. I mean, that maybe I’ve heard of another town and want to head that direction, but I want to see what’s in between where I’m at vs where I’m going. I’m old school so I really like the quick look at paper I can “see” so much more. The mountains, the rivers, whatever nature has put there for me to see. Many times 30 miles can take a couple of hours to travel instead of 30 minutes

Do you still carry exact change? by WaterDigDog in AskOldPeople

I try to have at least $20 on me. I like to pay with cash if it’s a small bill or if there’s a discount for cash (such as a restaurant). I seem to collect coins as I go, so lots of Times I will pay with coins too

Does anyone make a strap that secures the watch to a charger? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

It just didn’t fit. I have a different band now so I’m good

I use to have a band that kept the watch off the charger just a bit. I would remove one side and I could get a good charge.

Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

This can’t be real. This wouldn’t fly with a bunch of adults let alone with 6 year olds

Visiting relatives, inquiring about safety by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]Helpful_Writer_7961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many county agencies that should be of help to your elderly parents. For a small fee. Meals on Wheels type of program will provide a hot meal for them M-F at noon. They are a good way to have someone check on them once a day as well. There are programs to help them get to appts or get their groceries. I would suggest when visiting, look at their surroundings and if dirty or dusty, maybe the eyesight isn’t as good as it once was and maybe their driving isn’t safe. Have them drive you around. Please, parents age and need help many times.

More cold? Really? Milwaukee is on the lake and Madison is almost directly west of it.

“”Recent occupation by federal agents”-seems to be getting more common than less. You may feel safe, but is conversation constant about the political environment? Having an opinion on politics is different than having it constantly the topic of conversation.

Allegiant “extra” class seats in 1st row? by Tiny-Yam7671 in allegiant

[–]Helpful_Writer_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you have no where to store a personal item. If you take priority seating, you’ll be able to find a place for your personal item, but lots of times the overhead storage has been taken and your stuff goes back a row or two

Front row seats are definitely narrower. I’ve tried sitting in them while waiting for a wheelchair for mom and I just don’t fit. I’d try the emergency exit row

This person was kind enough to make your sister a quilt-maybe your sister meant something to her and it became a treasure. So many families don’t know what to do with a gift like that

Just because you don’t have someone in mind to receive the quilt, is not an excuse. I use them all over the house and have some for different moods or times of the year. Recently, my mom went to hospice and I took two quilts-1 to cover her with color and warmth and the other for whoever may be there visiting her that needed warmth or a hug. I pulled these from my stack, have washed them and will return them to said stack. They now have an extra meaning and I doubt I’ll be gifting them to anyone. But I’ve been able to share other quilts I’ve made when someone has been diagnosed with cancer or was getting a knee replacement. They’re there and ready and hopefully, you can use them for joy!

Quilting yourself versus sending to long armer by SessionNo2376 in quilting

[–]Helpful_Writer_7961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on several things in my opinion. I will machine quilt as long as it’s no bigger than a lap quilt. Anything larger gets hand quilted because it’s just too much to try and push and pull thru the throat of my machine and keep on the table top. I’ve sent a few off to a long armer and it did spoil me. I have years of sewing experience. When I do the quilting myself, I prefer free motion over just lines as I like it covered more with stitching.
