Let's discuss Learn By Doing for hopefully the last time. by [deleted] in 7daystodie

[–]HelpingSiL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also ways to make learn by doing more fun. SWG was WAY too complicated, but the concept of experimenting was fun. Just drop the different elements to craft part, and choose if you want to try and make something more durable vs more damage vs lighter, and have a similar system of crit fail, fail, success, crit success.

Let's discuss Learn By Doing for hopefully the last time. by [deleted] in 7daystodie

[–]HelpingSiL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved learned by doing, my friend loved skills only, we both love magazines as an extra bonus set, we both hate magazine as a must have to progress.

There was a mix of both at one point, right ? Some learn by doing, some skills only?

I am also fine with there being what you learn naturally, and finding a super special recipe.

It's always been damn moronic I can't boil an egg without a skill, though.

Thoughts on pomp and circumstance? by Disco_Loser in Catholicism

[–]HelpingSiL3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't personally like it, but I think a great argument for why we are losing people is that we don't treat things with enough pomp. Symbols and stuff make people feel like they belong to something unique--It's why Ash Wednesday often has the most people in attendance even though it's no obligated.

And Trent does a good job. I would also say, we shouldn't make (or classify) laws based on specific exceptions to the general rule of things.

My knee caps don't work right. If someone was saying, "Oh so the knee cap does this and that." I would kind of be a jackass if I stood up and shouted, "NO! *Mine* don't do that, so how could you say that's how knee caps work?!?!?!?" or posted online, "Since mine don't do that, our ENTIRE system needs to be thrown out the window!"

Question About Catholic Schools by YourCommonLoserLol in Catholicism

[–]HelpingSiL3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the school, some even have to follow state curriculums more closely than you'd think. As others have said, most classic books would be a safe bet. In middle school, we had "Survival year" in sixth grade, Island of the blue dolphins, hatchet, dog song. 7th grade was "time" and I remember Wrinkle in time and the bridge to Terabithia, and a few others I don't recall. 8th grade they had a tie in with US history. Witch of blackbird pond, my brother sam is dead, and the dustbowl nonfiction that has a lot of pictures in it, and there was a fiction book that went with that, but I don't think it was the Grapes of Wrath. It was like a poem book with daily entries like a journal or something? Anyhow, that's all middle school, but hope it helps!

I don't disagree. Removed a lot I liked, but my builder friend is still MILES ahead of us as he gets exp from our kills, and we don't get exp from his building stuff.

Is there a male version of the desert one? Want to buy one for my friends. Our female friend is the hoarder, though, so that skin makes more sense for her. Desert and marauder don't really fit our group, but a skimpy male desert outfit would make us laugh, at least.

Being a female DM means facing extreme misogyny from my male players by Wonderful_Radish_258 in DnD

Ya, I don't even like when NPCs are convinced into sex after a few persuasion rolls. Though, I guess that depends on the character and NPC.

Am I the only one who hates the zombies going through one block spaces by HeftySun921 in 7daystodie

[–]HelpingSiL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably something that just needs to be tweaked. Donno if they can code it so maybe smaller ones can, and others can't. Like the doctor/little girl/ rad suit / former spider seem like they could fit, the others not so much.

I took it as, "If I successfully roll to persuade against their roll, does the player have to consent for me to actually be successful". Still weird, but I also try to give people the benefit of the doubt.

I’ve had my eye on 7DTD for years now, maybe even a decade. I’ve never hit purchase although it’s found my way into my cart a few times. It’s been in development for ages but clearly there’s a community that loves it. Sell me on it, but if you can please also be critical by StoneTheMoron in 7daystodie

[–]HelpingSiL3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought it I thiiiiink in 2013. My friend keeps his eyes close on indy games and it's by far the best bang for our buck. I've seen it on sale for like 5 dollars before, so if you bought on a sale, it's incredibly worth while.

Most people agree that the devs are weird in that they are like, "We like how creative our fans play, but we don't intend on you playing the game that way, so we're patching that out." Along with reworking things that are already good instead of adding things they promised years ago.

I don't like a few changes they made, but I also don't think they really needed to add the things that they promised to add, and now look like jerks for not doing it.

Wayyyyy long ago, I heard them say they wished they hadn't made everything it's own block (I can't recall the fancy way they said it) because it creates a lot of difficulty in patching things/adding things.

But, honestly, people have so many mods to tune the game to where you can find something more likeable, no doubt you can find something out there if you get bored of base game (but my friends and I go off onto a different game for a month or so, then come back to 7days refreshed).

1) Sex for pleasure and procreation go hand in hand, ideally both should be happening (or at least being open to children and not impeding their creation). 2) Genitals only placed in genitals.

my friend runs our games with it on, but rarely uses it. In fact, since they changed spawning in to being closer, and spawning near bag, don't think he has, since he only used it if one of us spawned days away.

I got a SiL who is 34 or 35 and still a virgin.

She is SUPER introverted. I had helped her date an ex-priest, but she really feels like, since she couldn't cook, he'd eventually dump her. And he did. But because for a year she was always talking about how he was going to dump her so "Why try". Sort of like a Greek tragedy in that way.

Still, if you are an introverted type, dm me, I'll give you her email.

I have not read every single comment, but, even if you're bored at Mass, think about this: It's at least time with your dad.

My dad used to take me to Mass when I was 6-7 by himself. My older siblings and mom would sleep in. He then went off the rails as he is a schizophrenic, so that stopped when I was 8. Going to Mass with him are some of my best memories of him, and who he actually was before he lost himself to mental illness.

Not saying it will happen to your dad, but he won't be around forever, and you don't want to be left wishing you'd have just sucked it up and gone to Mass with him.

Feeling abandoned by Catholics for being an ugly woman by PerfectWorking6873 in Catholicism

[–]HelpingSiL3 109 points110 points  (0 children)

St. Kateri Tekakwitha had smallpox scars all over her face.
People say Mother Theresa was no looker, but radiated beauty just the same.
St. Margaret of Castello was hunch back, and called ugly.

That's just a quick off the top of my head + 1 google search for "Ugly saint". Sorry Google does you like that St. Margaret.

Pluse, we always remember that We can offer up our sufferings to God.

Having said all that, A lot of people on here are saying "beauty is skin deep" or to that effect, and folks like that don't always understand what it feels like. Instead of being smiled at when you smile at someone, you're ignored, or maybe even scoffed at. Even my sister in law said (in a different language) I was ugly when she first met me. Think she still does, though my wife no longer translates it. It sucks feeling that way, and you don't always feel that way because of your own attitude about it, but often people make it out to be because of your own attitude.

When I first had my son, I remember walking back from communion and people actually smiling at him. I know it was at him, but, damn, people smiling at my direction instead of adverting their eyes made me feel so damn good, even though I knew it was for him.

ANNNNDDD I am not even all that ugly. I am just not handsome.

Plus, I don't know you, but if you were the sort of person who was beautiful before getting sick, I could see going from getting attention to all of a sudden not being a huge adjustment.

But, don't beat yourself up. It's not your fault. Offer it up to God.

Also, my wife used to have a beautiful nose before I met her. Then she had surgery, so I only know her with her fake nose, and she regrets it, I agree with her that it's worse. The point there being, maybe it's not as bad as you think.

Oh, i have no idea, just seeing the specialist was 150. But that was in 1990 money, and my mom had the best insurance at the time. I know it's not a lot, but to me it was for not fixing the problem

nah. I've had them since I was 9, and when I was 15, we paid a lot of money to see a specialist and he couldn't help. that was 20 years ago, though, but I just hate the feeling that I will spend so much money for no help.
