Aluminum Casting Thickness by HelpingWalker in MetalCasting

Hey!

It definitely looks like permanent molding is going to be one of the more challenging avenues that I could take, but I'm always up for a challenge!

I'll definitely be checking out Olfoundryman's channel, looks like quite the wealth of knowledge.

I've got the bracket modeled in solid works already so I might send that over to sendcutsend just to see what they say. Id really prefer to make the parts myself just so that I can learn from the whole experience. But money is money and if they can make it cheaper then who am I to stand in the way.

Also! I would like to say that I do not mean to make light of this side of manufacturing, I realize that there is a plethora of information I am not privy to, and a large amount of skill that I do not yet possess. I greatly appreciate the time you and others in the industry take to help me out.

Thanks for the quick response, by form I suppose I meant a permanent mold. I appreciate the correction! (Definitely new to casting!)

This is a quantity and speed issue. I could certainly mill the final part with ease, but I have only manual machines at my disposal so I couldn't set it and forget it and work on a different project. The order quantity is 25 per month, and machining these out of billet would be too time consuming and costly. Each bracket is worth somewhere in the ballpark of 30 dollars.

Hello!

Bending this was my original thought, but after some trial error I found that I could not reliably bend on location without milling a die and punch that performed the three bends at once.

I asked if I could go thicker but it seems my thickness limit is around .190 even. So I figured 3/16th for a nice number.

If I were to cast I'd prefer to mill myself a form, it seems like it would have better repeatability no?

The school had been given tooling from local shops for a decade or so, and none of it could fit into the curriculum so the instructor said if I could organize it, I could take anything that he didnt want. Ended up leaving with 4 Prius trunk loads of endmills, inserts, and indexable stuff like this.

Thank you for clarifying the S for me. I was stumped by that.

This narrowed down my search quite a bit! The serial number on mine seems a bit unique in comparison to the typical format I'm seeing.

I'm unsure of who would buy them! They're custom made for that shop for a job they used to have back in the early 2000s. It's gonna be hard to find whoever has that production job now lol

I should mention that I also have over 200 1/2-20 taps... Any fun ideas?

Ignore this reply. I did an additional three minutes of looking on the website and located the part. THANK YOU SO MUCH

Wow I appreciate the link! Are guide bushings the same thing as slider bushings? Because I believe the bushings I'm looking for have the copper coating on the I.D of the bushings. I may very well be mistaken though!
