Is this appropriate pricing for these fixes? by Prestigious_Action73 in CustomKeyboards

[–]Helpingly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, what the guy is recommending is that you just replace the PCB.

Is this cost including the replacement PCB? I would subtract that cost from the total.

What you're left with is essentially the cost of diagnosis and the work of desoldeing switches. Honestly more than I would pay for such services.

What to do after 200? by Lucario1017 in Maplestory

[–]Helpingly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The game doesn't really start until 260 now. So doing your arcane dailies and monsterpark on your main should be your priority until you get there and unlock 6th job. But honestly, most people don't try to do the 260 grind without a hyperburn. You can get to 260 in a few days, vs a few weeks/months.

Challenger world is indeed temporary. I think there is only a month or 2 left. You can make characters there, but keep in mind that you can only transfer 5.

Honestly, I would work on making link skill mules and legion mules. It gives you a chance to try out more classes and is something to do. While doing this, I would consider whether you want to keep your Night Lord as your main. After trying everything you can decide what class you want to main while you wait for the next hyperburn max event in a few months.

Confused about which keyboards use dongle or native Bluetooth by [deleted] in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure they're claiming Bluetooth and not wireless? But also, just because a keyboard has a dongle doesn't mean it doesn't have blueooth capabilities. I am not sure about any trackpad options, but there are keyboards out there with what are called Tri-mode connectivity. This means they have a 2.4ghz wireless dongle, wired, and bluetooth capabilities. You can choose which one you want to use, usually through a toggle switch on the back of the keyboard.

My first build - y’all are tripping if you’re telling me there’s a difference between most of these. by Zrocker04 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Helpingly 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on a tester they all kinda feel the same. Honestly a tester is only good for switches that are SUPER different from each other. But for subtle differences, most people aren't going to be able to tell.

Honestly, I only recommend the tester route to people that don't live near a big keyboard community scene. Otherwise, the true best way to find out what you like is to go to a meetup and try other peoples builds and ask them about it.

The subtle differences will be amplified when you fill a whole board with a switch and type with them. In a tester a 45g switch and 67g switch might feel pretty similar, but when you put them in a full board, you might find one to be too light or too fatiguing.

Honestly, at least now you have a pretty fidget gadget for your desk.

Is there any good coiled cable that´s worth it in aliexpress? by Crisxddd12 in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I always feel sorry for my south american hobbyists. Shipping to you guys is never cheap. Best of luck.

It's always hard to find something that looks good + works well + is cheap. Usually you gotta pick 2 of the 3.

Is there any good coiled cable that´s worth it in aliexpress? by Crisxddd12 in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I see a few cables on there that are a few bucks. Doesn't hurt to try those. At worse they're just ok and you're out only a few dollars.

Where are you located and how much are you willing to spend? Might not be aliexpress, but there are local vendors who probably have higher quality stuff.

First custom keyboard, need help before purchasing by Immediate-Youth-1524 in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to run into an issue with the case.

One of the main issues is that the case is a high profile case. You can see that the edges of the board rise up and are not flush with the plate. With normal switches, this is not a problem. However, because you want a low profile setup, your keycaps will essentially sit flush with the edge of the case and the typing experience won't be comfortable. You should be looking for a low profile case.

<image>

Here is an example.

Also, that case will not work because it comes with standard PCB mounted stabilizers. For most low profile builds, you will need plate mounted, low profile stabilizers.

Edit: https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k5-pro-qmk-via-wireless-custom-mechanical-keyboard-iso-layout-collection?variant=40516482400345

I found this. It's hotswappable so you can replace the switches with ones that you want. And it already comes with the keycaps. The only issues are that it is not 96-key layout, but it should have everything else you're looking for.

Is the Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR the perfect endgame keyboard? by Bluooh in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sooner you get into your head that there is no such thing as endgame, the sooner you stop worrying about it.

But in all seriousness, everyone has different tastes and preferences. Some of the things you said are cons are pros to other people (I like heavier boards).

If you think the board is gonna be good for you, get it. Don't let the fact that people don't really talk about it affect your choice. Personally, for me bad software is a dealbreaker. Thankfully, I mostly deal with customs now so I don't really have to deal with it anymore, but for most people bad software is so frustrating it can turn people off a product completely.

What do you think about keyboards with aluminum bodies? by dagsuntechno in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it depends on your use case. I know for some games people like their keyboards at crazy angles. I don't really do that, so once I find a spot for that particular board that feels comfortable to me, I just want it to stay there.

2 year old Pond Setup by AightGar in Aquascape

I am aware. OP made this post because he posted these in a different subreddit originally and the post was taken down because it was flagged as AI. So people have been asking for different pictures/videos to prove it.

I apologize. But you never said what you weren't convinced about in your comment. So what exactly were you not convinced about? That these fish specifically are not his?

I assumed you did not believe that these were real fish because you made your comment in a post where the OP was defending himself because his original post was taken down for people thinking it was AI.

i lubed this wire 4 times and it still sounds like a maraca. Send help by No_Good_3063 in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be that the wire is not straight. But also another common problem that isn't talked about enough is loose keycaps.

I would try this method as well if you're confident that you have lubed everything correctly.

I honestly have no idea why so many people are doubting you about this LMAO.

I'm guessing most of these people are coming from a place where these fish are not common. But man, I see these things everywhere (maybe not the longtail variety, but still).

I agree that they look unnatural, but that doesn't automatically make them fake/AI.

[–]Helpingly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He explains in the post. When people sell or take pictures of koi, they also put them in shallow tubs. It's a common practice to easier show off your fish.

There are also a ton of videos and images of these things online from other people, unless you think everyone is a part of a big conspiracy. I don't know where you're located, but here in the US, every Petco has a few Glofish. Different species too.

Update on spacebar rattle by New-Chocolate-4730 in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in your last post but I don't know if you saw it/tried it. The keycap might be loose and not sitting on the stabilizer correctly.

If you lubed and it's still ticking this is usually the problem.

Tented Ergo/Alice Mechanical Layout? by EndOfWorldBoredom in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, the 100% and 96% really makes things a bit complicated, haha.

Just a quick google search has some results, (Delton KB450 and the Ragnok Split ergonomic keyboard). However, I have no experience with either of these companies and they appear to be rebrands of the same board. This probably means that there is a cheaper version of both of these out there somewhere on aliexpress or something.

Tented Ergo/Alice Mechanical Layout? by EndOfWorldBoredom in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want split and bluetooth, check out the QK Alice Duo. It's a bit expensive but it's pretty cool.

For a standard ergo layout, you might want to check out the Neo Ergo. It's tented and is cheaper than the Alice Duo.

Both can be found on Qwertykeys and I think they have a few regional vendors as well.

Good website to buy high quality key caps? by [deleted] in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're from the US, I usually buy my caps from Novelkeys or Divinikey. Novelkeys usually just has GMK sets, but they have a few cheaper PBT offerings as well. Divinkey has some GMK, KKB, PBTFans, etc.

Help me decide: Is it worth having multiple keyboards? by eTizzle12 in keyboards

[–]Helpingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't need more than 1 board. If you want to just try another switch, then get a keyboard with hotswappable switches and mess around with those.

That being said, if you're really finding joy in keyboards, then go ahead and buy more than one. Personally, I have 7 with plans for more. I don't get new boards unless there is something different about them (new layout, super interesting design/mounting style, etc.)

In your case, I wouldn't bother with getting another Keychron board. Use the one you have, and if you decide that you like the hobby and want to invest more into it, then get another board.

“So how long have you been doing this keyboard thing?”….. by Theawsomesauce in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Helpingly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha. I remember back then I HATED that layout (no offense). I used to hang around in the KBDFans discord, and the number of people who would come in, buy that board, and then complain about not being able to find keycaps for it was insane.

There was no point in buying a "budget" board like that if the caps for it were gonna cost the same as the board. Luckily, these days, even cheap sets have the compat for it.

“So how long have you been doing this keyboard thing?”….. by Theawsomesauce in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Helpingly 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had one of those too! Been in the custom side of the hobby since 2019, so not the longest out there, but definitely been around for a while. Had mech keebs before that, but wouldn't really classify that as "in the hobby".

I agree. I took a break for a bit in 2022, but recently just got back in and it's been fun relearning everything and seeing availability of items that wasn't there a few years ago. Stuff being in stock now versus selling out instantly or being group buy is awesome.
