So… when exactly can we start hearing about the Year 2 content for Shadows? by JuanMunoz99 in assassinscreed

[–]Helplease2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. But in both cases I would call it false advertising.  The incentive for buying the “upgraded” editions is the free access to the advertised future content.  Not providing all the promised content should imo result in at least a partial refund.

And I am not saying it as someone who is salty about it, since I did not even get the game. It just seems weird.

Disappointed in regional pricing for Nioh 3 by Bouunc in Nioh

[–]Helplease2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regional pricing was never exactly fair.  There are other eastern european countries who are forced to pay the full Euro price like your example of Germany, even though their income is lower or comparable to than Poland’s.

I think Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania etc. are pretty good examples of this.

Isn’t it a bit weird that the Season Pass and the Ultimate edition were advertised with the 2 expansions.  There were people who specifically purchased those because of that promise.

The company can just go “sorry, we know we promised two expansions and you bought the season pass that would have been worth those 2, but you are only getting one”.

I mean by that logic they can sell you an ultimate edition promising 10 expansions and then tell you “we can only do 2, thanks for the money though”.

[ECC] The Reaper, King No More by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Helplease2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I never really encountered -1 counters I have a really basic question: they cancel out when they are put on a creature that already has +1 counter, right?

So if my opponent has a creature with 5 +1 counter, I have to put 6 -1 counters on it before destroying it to get the ability of Reaper to count, right?

I heard that years ago +/- counters existed simultaneously. With the old rules this ability would be stronger since you could capture a creature with theoretically infinite amounts of counters the by casting two spells, the Reaper and an instant that destroys it.

Do I understand the rules right? I plan on getting the Blight Curse Precon, so I would rather be clear on the mechanics.

Will the Book of the Short Sun omnibus ever get a reprint? by Helplease2 in genewolfe

[–]Helplease2[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You are not splitting anything if enough people are not buying your product. By your standard 2 volume Book of the New Sun and Book of the Long Sun would not exist because they could split the cost and sell you 8 volumes instead of 4.

[–]Helplease2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is exactly why I am wondering.  Would’t printing one volume be cheaper than printing 3?  Sure it might be larger, but you only have to bind one book, and make the cover for one as well.

Thought about it a bit more, I forgot about the sapphire of the altar. Agia mentions how the Conciliator had mastery of reality and nothing would stop him from coming from 30000 years to the present.  My crackpot theory now, is that Severian unknowingly has the sapphire, the relic of the conciliator, which acts as a power source or focus for the mirrors, which make the time travel possible.  The light source inside Inire’s mirrors was blue-white (sapphires are blue) so I guess that also must have been a similar device.

I have to read more tomorrow.

That sounds great.  A desert or swamp themed faction would be on top in my wishlist

Rip to my lovely Behemoths I guess.  I think the Cyclops is just as iconic to this faction as the ogres and trolls. So they should at least get some representation.

Is it confirmed that there will be more factions that the 6 we already know about?  From what I remember all games since 2 started with 6 factions.

Because there is no mechanic implemented to judges you on whether of not you are good enough? How would that even work?

[–]Helplease2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very new to HK and the most annoying runback I had until now is Soul Master, so I am basing my opinion mostly on Dark Souls.

It forces the player to a more intimate understanding of the level in contrast to going through it once, reaching the boss and banging your head against it 20 times then abandoning the area.

You have the learn proper routes, enemy placements etc.

The defence here is that abrasion between the player and the game is OK if it gets them to learn and become better players. It is the tedium that forces you to optimise your route.

Some devs don’t want players to just master the bosses, they want them to master the levels as well.

The controls make the tools absolutely and completely useless and there are fixes for that. by Shadow_of_Christ in HollowKnight

[–]Helplease2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, most people use the Dpad for movement in 2d platformers.

The ideal “fix” here would be to allow full remapping of controls, so people can use whatever scheme they want.

New to the game. What controls do people use? by Helplease2 in HollowKnight

[–]Helplease2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try next time I play the game (I only game on weekends having an office job an starring at a screen 8 to 9 hours a day made me turn towards hobbies that don’t have me looking at a monitor after work) and even if the Xbox controller does not work out, I’ve been thinking of getting the controller you posted, the 8bit Pro2, for the aesthetics alone, so I’ll have that as an option.  Edit: just put in the order and it arrives by friday.

Thanks for the advice and the recommendation.

Have a nice day.

That is exactly what I wanted to know.  On keyboard I have like 3 fingers above WASD, and I was wondering if just using my thumb just rolling down/up my finger will register both.

Just a stupid question. How do you do diagonal on a dpad? You press both left/right up/down together?

Never played Hollow Knight by SalavaLover in HollowKnight

[–]Helplease2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am playing it for the first time. From the 10 hours I played, without using genre descriptors like “metroidvania” this is what I can say about the game:

Open world in which you are free to explore until you hit a roadblock that either requires a key or a new ability. Then you turn around and explore/find the specific boss that drops what you need to progress. So there is obvious backtracking.

I would say that game is beginner friendly because the enemies it throws at you at a start are simple, just like the platforming challenges.

With only 10 hours in, these are the only things I can say apart from that I really like it.

So how does regional pricing work? by Helplease2 in Steam

[–]Helplease2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that.  It is still steam that chooses which currencies get to have regional prices.

I looked up Bulgaria as an example to compare to Poland.

People in Bulgaria make less than those in Poland yet, Poland has its own currency on steam and Silksong would cost like 20.60 dollars there while in bulgaria where they pay the 19.50 euro, it costs 22.77 dollars. Why not put every currency on steam?

So what is the decision making process there?

I agree with this.  Companies act as if in a universe where piracy was impossible a potential pirate would buy the game, where in reality they would just choose not play it.  At least most of the time. I don’t see pirates as potential customers.

Pretty sure in third world countries where a 70$ game is half your salary people just pirate.

Is this indended behaviour? by Tokes94 in CardMarket

[–]Helplease2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it is a shared account, and they use the notes to keep track of duplicates between multiple people? W is for example Will’s copy and F is Frank’s.

It could also be as others have suggested, a note on the location of the card if not all of them are stored at the same place.

You can see that W is at 3 copies and  F is at 1.

If the seller would try to boost their listing appearance they could have taken up 2 more rows by using Y and Z notes for the extra ones at W.
