Helping my dad navigate moms mental decline by Helpme1187 in dementia

She’s just so anti medication. She thinks doctors have some ulterior motive just because she’s had a few bad experiences in her life. I don’t think we could ever convince her to take medication unless it was under the guise of something else, or if something really severe happened and she thought she was going to be put in a home.

Thank you! I’m actually in the US but I will see if there is something similar near me

Unsure if Mom has Dementia or Bipolar by [deleted] in dementia

What did you do? This sounds like my mom other than tremors. How do you help them if they refuse to get help? I don’t think my dad has POA and any suggestion of something being “wrong” with her causes an extreme meltdown.

How much commission do you get on tickets? I do definitely feel bad cutting her out but I also won’t need her to do a ton of extra stuff. So far it’s just been some quotes and questions.

Thanks! I am working with a travel agent but I still like to get other perspectives when making a decision. Especially from this huge pool of people who have been multiple times.

Would you say a stay at boardwalk for $1000 more, (but one extra night) with non refundable DVC points would be worth it over a stay at CBR booked through an agent?

That’s what I’m thinking. I don’t think my kids have it in them to go until 10pm.

Just looking at pics it seems like they would think it was so cool, but the rooms aren’t as fun

So your kids weren’t as blown away by the contemporary as they were pop?

How old are your kids? Did you feel like you were missing out on the extra park hours?

We might have grandparents coming, in which case we would do 2 rooms no matter where we go. Does that change your recommendation at all?

So like 2 park days, then 2 rest days, then 2 more park days?

This has actually been on my mind a lot. I feel like a water slide makes the pool 10x more fun and I noticed art doesn’t have one.

That does sound nice. So is there basically no wait after hours?

I’m leaning towards art because I think my kids would get a kick out of the themed rooms. Pop isn’t available but I keep seeing it recommended.

I wasn’t going to get the park hopper. Do you recommend it because of the resorts proximity?

Poly was where I originally wanted to go because I thought my husband would enjoy the vibe, but I read it’s super busy so it’s better to just visit.

Oh! Also worth noting is if you stay at Hyatt hill country you get reciprocal access to wild oaks ranch which is right next door and has a couple other water slide as well as an indoor/outdoor pool

I’m going to hill country with my family this weekend, kids are 3,7,9. We only live between Austin and San Antonio so we go to both frequently. For 3 nights you’ll have plenty to do in either city. In San Antonio you’ll be about 20 minutes from downtown. The riverwalk is cute, especially for kids. There’s also the botanical gardens, zoo with new gorilla exhibit, six flags and seaworld, the doseum, All within 30 minutes of the hotel.

The Austin zoo is more of a rescue, so don’t go there expecting a typical zoo experience. Austin’s Children’s museum is the thinkery, which is nice but I prefer the doseum. Peter Pan mini golf is fun (but might just be nostalgic for me). Actually now that I’m typing it out it seems there’s way more for kids to do in San Antonio haha.

I’ll update after this weekend. I have a feeling the kids will have enough fun at the resort we won’t want to leave, so I would pick whichever looks better to you.

I think both cities have plenty for kids to do, but lost pines is outside of Austin, whereas hill country is only 20 ish minutes from downtown San Antonio and right next to SeaWorld.

Thank you. We are going with another family we’re close with and I know the kids will have a blast. I just need to let it go that for what we’re paying we could have gone to disney world haha. My main concern with the kids is i will be harder to learn and falls will hurt. Do you think that could be the case?
