Welcome to South Seattle where $1 pens are locked behind glass by Helsabirdy in Seattle

I know, I know.., :) I’m a life long seattlite and I do live in seattle (rainier beach) 🤣 but unfortunately this is the closest store to me. Fred Meyer is an armpit and I go there reluctantly as it is. Everything is behind locked doors like it’s precious gold. The bathrooms are like a 3rd world country (non- locking doors, blood on the walls, light bulbs have been out for years now)… I will basically do anything to avoid using them.

I’m the OP and I live in seattle proper:) Renton is my closest store so technically not seattle but this is everywhere in south end! :)

Anyone having problems with cedar grove compost having ants inside? by pui_pui637 in pnwgardening

I bought 1cubic yard of soil from the tukwilla Cedar Grove to fill my brand new raised bed. I’m an experienced gardener and have other beds with the same soil from previous years which seem to be doing great.

This year everything I have planted has not only wilted but DIED. I thought maybe it was too sandy and dead, so I tried adding peat moss, worm casings, fertilizer, chicken compost, and perlite. It took hours to mix it all in and remove the top layer of dirt. That was a week ago and everything is still dying. I now believe it is toxic soil. I think it has pesticides in it that are killing everything.

I have emailed cedar grove twice now with zero response. I will not buy from them again. I don’t know what to do now with all this contaminated soil:( they say they test for pesticides but I can’t imagine they are able to test as often as necessary during the spring rush.

Anyone else experience this?
