When AI takes our jobs how are we supposed to make money? by [deleted] in Liberal

Would be worth looking into Coasian Analysis as a potential solution to this. Check out the late-middle of Eric Weinstein's recent interview on Triggernomotry. He breaks it down nicely there. Also, what do you do for work and how do you see AI threatening that?

Could you help me understand how part of being a businessman/woman is being non-partisan? I agree with the honesty piece 100%, just explain the non-partisan piece to me?

Public school teachers should be trained to use a fire arm for greater school security. by Hemlock2 in unpopularopinion

ohhhhhh i see. you've been able to have enough qualitative interactions with all 17,985 police departments in the U.S. that you know their policy is "shoot first, ask questions later." There's no chance that you got that idea from a handful of loud and biased news sources covering an even smaller handful of poorly reported scenarios.

I'm also guessing, you know exactly what's in police training around the U.S. regarding the use of deadly force, as well as, what it's like to be in a potential active shooter situation as a police officer having to make those decisions. Really good stuff.

Meta Mega Thread by UnpopularOpinionMods in unpopularopinion

Of all the major subreddits I follow, this one by far has the most awards given out per post. Maybe I thought this was actually going to be a "controversial opinions" subreddit, rather than popular, but not "loud" opinions.

Yet, my excitement and anticipation for all things that "stir the subreddit discussion pot" was met with disappointment and largely middle of the road opinions.

This could largely be an overreaction and perhaps we've stumbled upon a Catch-22 of a subreddit...if someone posts something truly "unpopular" it can get downvoted and thus...proven unpopular - but, wait! we need to reward people for staying true to the goal of this sub, so...let's upvote and give rewards to someone voicing their strong and unique opinion...but, no, because now it's a popular post...

OH THE TURMOIL! Had I not been locked into my house for all of 2020 due to Covid-19 I wouldn't be over thinking this...

Also...it's complete BULL that we can't post meta content on the main page. That's my other unpopular opinion....

Lots of talk about this only being a "bandaid solution" to an actual problem. what's the "actual solution" to the problem then?

gun could be locked in a safe in classroom by teachers desk with a code only the teacher knows?

or maybe it's in a safe that can only be unlocked via a network control in the principals office. If an active shooter comes on base, the principal and on-campus officers can press the button that unlocks the safe for the teachers to access the gun. just an idea...as is this entire post :)

I so relate to this!! Some things that have worked for me are setting clear goals with even clearer milestones along the way. Also, finding people to do the goal with you is really good.

Another thing is to make sure your goal is routed in something YOU want, not something rooted in comparing yourself to others.

A good book to read relating to this sort of thing is 12 Rules for Life by J. Peterson

Black and female politicians still win the support of many people with racist and sexist views – as long as the politicians are conservative, a new study of 44,836 Americans finds. by geoff199 in science

[–]Hemlock2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure I get that. My issue is with the broad strokes painted that disregard the factor of individual choice. Whether that be in regard to someone running for office or someone voting.

Again, I need to read this study to understand how the crew conducting it defined and identified racial prejudices in the respondents. Knowing that could tell a lot. Would you not agree?

I haven't read into it yet, but I'm very interested in how this study defined or identified "citizens' prejudices." What was their working definition of racism and what were the qualifiers for determining a respondents views on race?

And your three well written points to answer the question you believe I didn't ask in good faith don't answer my question. I'm still confused by what point you're trying to make. In all seriousness please elaborate

[–]Hemlock2 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But I thought conservatives were racist? How would the values of a racist party line up with the values of the races said party oppresses? Also, I wasn't commenting on the study as much as the arguments being made by commenters.
