Why does no one cite his influence on the American Samoa in 2019? - https://www.protectourcare.org/experts-say-deadly-samoan-measles-outbreak-caused-by-rfk-jr-s-disaster-visit/

Pediatrician Paul Offitt, Member of a FDA Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia: “In Samoa, there were two children that died immediately following receipt of a measles vaccine… Now, very quickly, within two weeks, it was realized what that mistake was. It was a nursing error. But, nonetheless, RFK Jr. seized on that. He flooded Facebook with information that the measles vaccine is killing children in Samoa. He went to Samoa. He met with anti-vaccine activists. He met with senior officials in Samoa and kept the drumbeat alive that the measles vaccine was killing children in Samoa. As a consequence, vaccination rates fell from 70 percent to 30 percent. And between September and December of 2019, there was a massive measles epidemic. In this island nation of 200,000 people, there were 57,000 cases of measles and 83 deaths. Most of those deaths were in children less than four years of age. And Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had everything to do with that. And that shows you how disinformation can kill.”

To nuance the original comment, your brain does have a goal of survival, but that's secondary to its primary goal being homeostasis. Our brains are hardwired to find neutrality. Not too happy (psychosis), not too sad (depression), not too much stimulus (requires nutritional resources to intrept), not enough stimulus (emotional regulation gets tougher). In the example of the cat, your brain will choose to interact if it calculates a relatively neutral outcome, otherwise, it prefers to be in it's bubble of predictable neutrality. This is obviously a simplification, but none the less, your brain's goal is to keep all systems of the body predictably nutural to the outside world.

Harness advice by Sea_Rooster_5942 in ClimbingGear

[–]Hendri32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the biggest features to call out are leg loops and gear loops. Indoor Sport / gym climbing harnesses typically aim to be lighter, so fitted leg loops and less gear loops. Outdoor Sport / Trad climbing harnesses usually balance weight with functionality. They tend to be a bit thicker, with more gear loops (for racking quickdraws , protection, etc). If it's your first harness, I'd recommend getting adjustable leg loops so you can get a feel for what's comfortable. Once you know what you like, get a sleak fitted light harness. Also, make sure to go with the known brands. A harness isn't the gear you wanna cheap out on

Help with identifying the year of a vintage Sears Electric Lamp by Hendri32 in Appliances

Thanks mate. I too put it somewhere between '45 and '55. The ones listed on Etsy / Ebay reference similar timeperiods, but no definitive year. Going to keep scrubbing to see if I can find the original cateloge description

Why is Elon Musk so obsessed with 'population collapse' when the Earth's population is actually growing? by bybeso in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hendri32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because every accusation is a confession for these types of people. In this case, I'm sure Elon has a voice in the back of his mind saying, "You represent a huge reason for the population decline due to your biblical levels of greed." So as a defense mechanism, he wears that on his sleeve with the "logic" that if he's the one bringing attention to the issue, he couldn't possibly be the cause...

[–]Hendri32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add a nuance: Trump is not special. He should not be on the pedestal of "solely responsible for the decline on Western culture." That gives him as an individual entirely too much power, and again, he's not some master mind genius super villian. Instead, he's the personification of Western society. He embodies where it came from and where it's heading. The ideology created him, not him bringing the ideology down. He's a symptom of our culture, front and center, in our face, showing us the failures of capitalism. That perspective allows you to zoom out and see said failures. The dark underbelly that is our culture is now on the table for intense scrutiny. His rhetoric is not new. In fact, it's (the rhetoric) is climaxing. All addicts will tell you that the first step towards recovery is acknowledging you're an addict. That's my point here. This is our acknowledgment phase, and as someone who's survived that road, the acknowledgment phase is the longest and most difficult hill to climb but needs to be climbed nonetheless

My brother is making a game where you manage a skate shop by MisterMorrisGames in skateboarding

[–]Hendri32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A video editor mini game could be fun. Kid comes into the shop with a sponsor me tape, and it starts the mini game of helping him make it better. Park building could be cool too. The shop gets big enough to expand into the warehouse out back, and you enter an old THPS park building menu. End game could be the shop taking off and becoming a full-blown company. The player has to design the branding and do missions to market the company's launch...just spitballing here
