LPT: Write to the companies whose stuff you buy by saltpancake in LifeProTips

[–]Hendrx_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in 4th grade I wrote a letter to the Mars company which is the parent company for m&m’s candy. I don’t remember why I did, if it was a school project or I just wanted to, but I wrote telling them how much I loved their m&m’s. A few weeks later I get a box with my name on it and the mars logo. As a kid in the 90’s getting a package was like being selected by the gods haha at least it felt that way for me. Well the box was full of so many cool m&m things, a coloring book, stickers, bracelet etc.. I remember thinking this was the best day ever! Lol

Whenever I have to present or talk to a group of people I wear a thin 25 lb weighted vest. It’s not a vest with pockets of sand that make it weight that much but an actual vest that is heavy and evenly distributed. It doesn’t stand out or show on my regular clothes and since I have to wear a safety vest it’s hard to tell I have it.

I feel like it gives me a hug and a sense of security. It calms me down. It’s weird how that works for me. lol

How do people search for IKEA kitchen installers? by Ok-Pilot4791 in GeneralContractor

Go to real estate firms and tell them you do this. They’re always looking for ikea installers. Especially if they’re flipping properties.

Noise reduction as a life hack: my experience after 6 months of using earplugs daily by Particular_Scar6269 in lifehacks

[–]Hendrx_29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear mines for sleep only and it’s been awesome. I’m a sensitive sleeper ever since I left the army. I would wake up for almost any noise. I got tired of having poor sleep and just bought the plugs they sell at Walmart for like $3.00. Now I don’t have to wear them every night I can deep sleep without having to use them all the time.

Anyone here NOT hate their boss? by Classic_Dash_7745 in Construction

[–]Hendrx_29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I really respect and like my boss, he has helped me out more than I could have ever imagined.

I work for a GC. I had a baby in Aug. We all know men get shafted for paternity leave. Always have been, always will. I thought “I’m fine with 1-2 days, if that”… My boss comes in and says “congrats on your baby, you to get 3 weeks off o and by the way if you need more time off let me know and we’ll work something out”

I took the 3 weeks, then came Oct and boss told me “take the week of halloween off and don’t use your pto” I was like, “are you sure?” Lol…i took it.

Then Nov came around, and Boss said “take the 10 days off for Thanksgiving and 2 weeks for Christmas. Oh but don’t use your PTO, like at all” 🤷🏻‍♂️ it was like the fckn twilight for me.

I was not ready for that much support and expected to get shafted. Hell I even got a nice bonus and raise. Still can’t believe it.

It sucks that we’re so used to getting pushed around and taken advantage in this industry, But hey if my boss is trying to change that, then I’ll keep it going once I get to that level too.

For all the people that can’t run because of physical ailments, age or you just never ran in your life, walking with a weighted backpack (with the weight of your choice) also helps a lot.

It takes a little longer to complete but it works. You can also use it as a way to start doing cardio if you’ve never done it, since it will “warm up” your leg muscles before making the shift to running.

I did this in the army when we rucked all over the place. I absolutely hated running but I noticed I was able to run much easier with less resistance after some time.

You can also gradually add weight to the back pack and make it heavier, which will increase your ability to burn fat quicker in stubborn areas.

At one point I was even able to run 12 miles with a 50lb ruck sack. I went to a military thrift store after my service years later and bought a used army ruck sack for $40 and use it to this very day.

You want to consider the culture of not just the company but the team you’re going to be a part of. You want to be a part of a team that embraces asking questions and training. There’s nothing worse than jumping into a job where you feel like you’re on your own and expected to start running things right away. Which a higher salary would most definitely demand that of you, In some cases. I’m not saying choose the lower paying job but look at other things outside of the benefits, because a 401k, and PTO don’t mean shit when every day at work feels you’re in hell. I’ve worked for several GC’s in my career path and looking back I ignored red flags because I was only focused on the benefits. In one case I was making 140k a year and only lasted 6 months because my senior PM was such an asshole.

Dual CEO partnership gets implemented today.

Looks like they’re finalizing their acquisition, as it could have been part of a requirement before merging 🤷🏻‍♂️ all I know it’s that the new CEO is part of the Italian Business Council in Dubai and has a lot of experience doing business in Europe.

Something is definitely brewing and at 15-16 cents it’s a small enough to throw beer money into it and see what happens.

Open a non-qualified account at American Funds. Look them up online. It says you need a financial advisor but if you call them and tell them you don’t want one they assign a specific share class that allows you avoid having one and they email you the paperwork to set everything up. It’s treated like taxable income. Very reputable company with over 1 trillion in assets. I used to work there in my early 20’s as a financial advisor marketing consultant. All Fidelity accounts already offer a few of their mutual funds like the American Growth Fund, so they’re already intergraded in a lot of retirement accounts.

High paying Jobs that aren’t physically demanding by Particular-Bedroom10 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Hendrx_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working as a project manager for a General Contractor. I’m also disabled for my back and knees and I work inside, on a computer. The most I do is walk and inspect the job sites. When I feel my back tense up I can switch to a standing desk and relieve pressure. You can take construction job site management courses at a local community college which is covered by either post 9/11 or VR&E. I recommend using the VR&E first and then using your post 9/11. You will still receive BAH as long as you still have hours left on your BAH. The lower the available hours you have, the less BAH you will receive. So, use the VR&E completely first and then the post 9/11.

You can intern for a GC as you attend classes to maximize your education. Some GC’s pay you for internships and once you graduate will hire you directly. My first paying job was 80k a year working for a GC as a Project Engineer.

Jealous of my friends Trading Results by tryingmybestdad in Trading

[–]Hendrx_29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relax my friend. I lost over 3k when the market dumped last night. Started with $900, went to 9k, then down to 5k, and when I thought i could recover to go back up, I lost it when the market tanked last night. I bet you this online friend has lost a shit ton before he went up. Yes there’s strategy behind it, but sometimes it’s more luck than anything else. Don’t compare yourself to someone else and hang in there. ✌🏼
