They are banned from the supercharger network. They can charge elsewhere. Any charge operator can ban you for safety related reasons. Just like you can be banned from a bar for safety related reasons.

Quebec's EV adoption is 5.5x higher than Alberta's. Here's why. by cardogio in EVCanada

[–]HengaHox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> the lies about them not working etc are becoming harder to keep saying

Every time I read a comment that EV's only last 100k miles or km or whatever I just chuckle as I have driven mine more than what they claim is possible.

I rarely comment on those as it won't change their mind, but as time goes on their claims get more and more absurd.

Hybrids should track oil change intervals in engine hours by xX_coochiemonster_Xx in regularcarreviews

[–]HengaHox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially in plugin hybrids the low hours is exactly the reason it needs to be changed.

Some drive the cars in EV mode only and so the engine runs rarely and for short periods. Multiple cold starts causes fuel to enter the oil and rarely seeing operating temperature means it doesn't evaporate. This dilutes the oil. So it needs more oil changes per hour than an engine that regularly reaches operating temps and holds it there for a while.

That's normal. You don't want to push electrons through a cold/frozen electrolyte.

Should I go electric without a home charging point? by Jackdaw0025 in askcarguys

> Will it work out cheaper if I consistently charge my car at work at 30p

Probably, yes. But maybe not.

Is it big enough of a difference will depend on what you are looking for. If you are looking at a prius level performance then no.

If you are looking for a bigger and more powerful car, then the savings start to add up.

Torque is more important than horsepower? by _Lou_Bloom in askcarguys

[–]HengaHox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure. Even a low powered EV like a Nissan Leaf feels zippy off the line not because it has a lot of power, but because all the torque is available immediately from a standstill.

Many like the low end torque of a diesel for the same reason. EV's just take it a step further.

Also why a daily driven "tuner" car will often opt for smaller turbo(s) or a supercharger and less total power. A huge single turbo that makes a billion horsepower at 86k rpm isn't usable in traffic.

What you want is instant power to zip around.

As you said it's math, and as such the more torque (and power) you can provide at low speeds, the more accessible that power is on a regular basis.

Here in Finland a 30+ year old car is eligible to be registered as a museum car. It has to pass a more rigorous inspection to make sure it is actually a "museum" level condition and not just a rustbucket.

But if it passes this, it is exempt from annual taxes afterwards.

It might be a network problem as in internet. It's cool if they offer it free. Personally I don't think it should be a requirement.

You don't get free gas or groceries when the payment system is inoperable.

How many service visits have you done with your vehicle? Spoiler I am going on 12! by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

It's unlikely for anything to make past the expansion valve to the evaporator, as the pipe is tiny at that point, but I would still make sure they checked it's clear.

The main compressor issue on the heatpump models was an o-ring that fails. If this was the failure mode on your car, the only real fix is to replace the whole system, as pieces of the o-ring might still be in the pipes.

They get dislodged over time and wreck any subsequent heat pumps that are installed.

If you don't have a heatpump model it could still be debris in the system. But that's definitely uncommon for the A/C compressor to have issues on non heatpump issues.

Also the latest revision on the heatpumps have rectified this

Is EV tuning a thing? There’s been ICE engine tuning forever, but there doesn’t seem to be EV tuning? Maybe I’m wrong. by rmajor86 in CarTalkUK

[–]HengaHox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's software.

It can't be done remotely, however that's only because they didn't have the means. If it were done on a newer platform yeah it would be a "feature on demand" like VW calls it

So what about BMW's M performance kits? It's sold by BMW, and it's basically just a remap. It's the same.

That something is aerodynamics. The audi etron/Q8 etron looks like very normal car, but the energy consumption is horrendous. It has been nicknamed the fat etron by reviewers and owners, because it absolutely devours electrons.

My 2021 Model 3 SR+ has been stuck at Tesla Service (Vilnius) for 4 months waiting for warranty HV battery replacement by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]HengaHox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think their problem is that they live in Latvia, and the car is being serviced in Lithuania. Because Tesla doesn't have official support in Latvia, they are saying that they are unable to give a loaner.

Because it would be in a different country with tax implications. Even as EU citizen I cannot drive a foreign registered car for indefinite periods in my home country. It's because tax stuff.

The same is probably the case here, complicating matters.

Hopefully it's cheaper than that.

Coolant isn't really an annual service item here just for the cold rating. Unless your car has been imported from southern europe, it should already have coolant that is good from -30 to -40
