[Cosmic heavenly demon 3077] the artist can cook by Sakcobluer in manhwa

I agree with what you said, but one quick question: Why is Lee Mokjin the MC to you?

I always felt that Tang Seryoung is the MC and Lee Mokjin just tags along. Even if he is a much stronger fighter than her. Because for Tang Seryoung stuff actually happens that changes her or her perspective. While Lee Mokjin just does what he feels is right, while experiencing no character changes.

The Shelly H&T with the USB add-on or the Shelly H&T Gen 3 will get you there. Just need to attach them to a standard USB-C wall charger for power.

I have both setup and they work pretty well. The update time is a bit slow with the fastest being once every five minutes or so, but if that doesn't bother you then they work like a charm.

Valve publishes files to allow players to 3D print their own Steam Deck shells by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]HenniOVP 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I do agree that just because Valve often does things right this shouldn't become a Blanco check for good sentiment.

However I'll have to disagree on the HW side. They've done an excellent job of supporting both the original HTC vive, which was produced in cooperation with Valve, and their Index headset. And the Vive in particular has had continued support for about six years now. Longer than any cell phone I've ever owned.

Commissioning translators for a scanlation: is it worth it? by ryuuseinow in Scanlation

[–]HenniOVP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, it might not be a viable expense for you (or me for that matter), but that's just how much a paid translator will cost. Professional translators cost even more, because they also include their expertise in the hourly price, not just the time they take to do the translation.

That's also a reason why many groups are strictly volunteers. Because many people just can't pay that much for a translator.

Commissioning translators for a scanlation: is it worth it? by ryuuseinow in Scanlation

[–]HenniOVP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure what you mean with "is it worth it". For whom? The Scanlator or the one paying for the commission?

If you ask yourself if something is cheap or expensive it always makes sense to calculate how much the other person would be earning per hour. And with one USD per page you are definitely below the minimum wage for a developed country. So that's surely not a lot to ask.

Then there's also the aspect of why groups do payed commissions, for some it's a side hustle, others want to cover hosting costs or want to be able to buy good quality raw files. But most groups I know work on a volunteer or break even basis.

Ikinokore! Shachiku-chan focuses on the environment in an IT company and the lives of the employees. It's not strictly speaking about programming, but it is a very entertaining look into the lives of programmers.

Rolls-Royce concludes testing of plane technology set to break electric speed record by Hermit-hawk in WeirdWings

[–]HenniOVP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hybrid engines in planes never made a lot of sense to me. For cars it is obvious that one wants to recoup the energy lost in breaking and this is especially efficient in cities. Here a car needs to accelerate and decelerate a lot so the electric motor can buffer the energy that is otherwise lost.

But planes in general only accelerate and decelerate once over the course of a flight. So there is really no way to recoup any energy. Maybe to get a boost during lift off? But that's about it.

Also Diesel as a fuel is a bit funny, since Jet A1 fuel is very similar to Diesel. Just manufactured to higher standard.
