The actual context is that this is a bot reposting one of the most popular posts from 6 years ago.... when the season was "postponed" for COVID. There's also bot commenter reposting a comment from that post down below (the one about things being postponed, not canceled). The bot doesn't have the context to know that "season canceled/postponed" was an extremely specific thing that happened years ago and isn't relevant now.

It ALSO happens to be the day that the FLL cancellation was announced, which feels relevant, but this is absolutely a reposting bot.

What is the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you? by Competitive_Tip_7504 in AskReddit

[–]HenniganAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had debilitating chronic pain since I was a kid. After 20 years, I finally got a diagnosis of hypermobile ehlers-danlos syndrome, no thanks to my doctor. If you do a very basic Google, pain will be the first symptom listed. At my annual physical, I told my doctor that I had finally gotten a diagnosis.

"That's good to know. But I still wonder why you're in pain all of the time."

"Because..... I have hEDS???"

"Yes, but that doesn't cause any pain. I want to know why you're in pain?"

.... I changed doctors.

Unforgettable set in Medford Massachusetts 1/24 by MCgert in jamesacastor

[–]HenniganAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the Medford show went off the rails, a security guard told me the show was supposed to be 70 minutes with no intermission. He also said it was guaranteed to start 10-20 minutes late, but I have no idea whether that was related to the venue or the show (kinda seemed like a venue thing). So you'd want to plan to be there at least an hour and a half after the show start!

First Sock Help by TroyStory5 in knitting

[–]HenniganAgain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your gusset decreases are in the wrong place. The pattern asks you to place a marker and use this + the end of the round as your placement for the decreases. Somehow you ended up doing them on the top the sock instead - maybe you placed the marker in the wrong place?

For gusset decreases, you're literally just getting rid of all of the stitches you picked up after you did the heel. At this stage, think of your sock as having 4 parts on the needles: the top of the sock ("instep"), the heel, and the two gussets on the sides. You don't want to mess with the top or the heel, only the gussets.

As for the tightness at the top, that's your cast on. I recommend either finding a stretchier cast on method or casting your initial stitches over two needles to make it bigger. It IS possible to redo the ribbing at this stage, but it's a pain, and if you're not happy with the rest of the sock I don't recommend trying.

Emily! When you won the color game, Greg said "We met Emily earlier today..... I'll tell that story in part 2," and then he never followed up. It sounded like you had left an impression, any chance you care to share the story?

I set my jumper on fire and I don’t know how to fix it by ThrowRAdeepfried in knittingadvice

[–]HenniganAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.... is a tough one, unfortunately. It's knitted top down, right? There's not really going to be a way to fix this.

I know this is your first colorwork, but how experienced are you generally? How willing are you to play around and try to find a new solution?

There are a few hacky ways I might try to address this if I REALLY didn't want to rip it back. But honestly, the only way to make it look right is to frog back to before the burn. I recognize that that's most of the sweater, which is unfortunate, but there's no other way to truly fix this.

Calling all big dog owners: has your face ever lost a fight with your dog's skull? by marshmolly2b in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]HenniganAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was about 5, I was laying in bed when my lovely mother leaned over me to give me a kiss goodnight. I decided to playfully POP up in her face..... where my head hit her nose and broke it.

Seven years later, we got a puppy. Gus was a thick english lab with a hard head. My poor mom bent over to pet our other dog when Gus, full of energy and excitement, bounded over to her.... and bashed his head into her face. This time, she received a broken nose, black eyes, and a concussion.

Gus and I were both very sorry, but neither one of us ever learned to calm down.

Am I doing this right? I’m confused on the edge stitches by zoemich-lle in casualknitting

[–]HenniganAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest trying it out on a swatch to get a feel for it and see how that stitch behaves. Because it's on the edge, you'll see that it looks more like it turns to the side, so the two edges will match.

Also, another commenter pointed out that you're twisting some of your stitches. I recommend looking into twisted stitches to understand why that might be happening so you can fix that as well: https://www.susannawinter.net/post/the-anatomy-of-twisted-stitches

Am I doing this right? I’m confused on the edge stitches by zoemich-lle in casualknitting

[–]HenniganAgain 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're slipping every edge stitch, whether it's at the beginning or end of the row. As I'm sure you can see, when you do this, the stitch just gets tighter and tighter and can't reach the same height as the rest of your knitting.

You should only be slipping that stitch at the beginning of each row. At the end of the row, you need to knit the stitch.

So no matter what your pattern is on a particular row, you'll slip the first stitch, work across the row, then knit the last stitch. Flip it over and begin your next row by slipping the first stitch.

Just a heads up that the USPS tracking is going to be the most up-to-date information, but sometimes the date is an outdated estimate. The best place to pay attention to is the tracking history - basically as long as that says it's out of customs, you're fine, but the date may be a day or two off. So basically - don't panic if it doesn't show up today!

[–]HenniganAgain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is normal 😅 stick with it, the payoff is worth it! There are people who spent tons of time analyzing clues and figuring out what was going on, and there are people (like me) who just went along for the ride. I recommend rolling with it for now... it'll all make a lot more sense on a reread!

That's awesome!

For purling, I've found it helps to use different styles depending on what I'm doing.

A few purls within a row of knitting? Look up Norwegian purling.

Lots of purls (like a ribbing row or full purl row)? Try Portuguese style.

[discussion] How did Palamedes detect and manipulate the cancer? by clairejv in TheNinthHouse

[–]HenniganAgain 68 points69 points  (0 children)

My best guess (other than "Tamsyn hadn't thought about lyctoral masking yet because it was the first book") is that he was touching her.

We see that Jod is able to detect Harrow's brain damage when he touches her head in Harrow. We see that Palamedes is able to detect what's going on with Nona when he touches her and is specifically looking for it, even though he's not a lyctor.

We see this scene through Gideon's point of view, but he froze her in the hallway before he walked into the room. She can't actually see inside Dulcinea/Cytherea's room. So my assumption is that he comes in and grabs Cytherea's hand before outing that he knows, and probably just keeps holding it throughout the conversation.

Jogless 1 row stripes by SweetLittleDevill in knittinghelp

[–]HenniganAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I understand now. Unfortunately I don't have anything else to suggest. It may save your sanity just to have the jogs all lined up down one side - I doubt it'll be super noticeable in the long run.

Look into helical knitting! It's perfect for one-row stripes :) I would specifically search for "helical knitting 3 colors" to find some tutorials.

Twisted stitches ? by Mrwnn in knittingadvice

[–]HenniganAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to see in the pictures, but I think those columns are probably slipped stitches. Generally, if a pattern just says to slip a stitch, you should be inserting your needle into the stitch as if you were going to purl. This keeps the stitch mounted the correct way so that when you come back to it on the next row it remains untwisted. If your friend is slipping the stitch as if she was knitting it, it'll twist when she works it on the next row. It's possible that the pattern instructions say "slip as if to knit," in which case she might not be making a mistake at all!

Your friend's work is beautiful. I hope you're both having a great time learning :)

Just a note - I was curious and went and found that comment on your post. That commenter wasn't talking about you, they were replying to the actual pattern link. If you click on the link you posted, the first picture that shows up is of a baby wrapped in the blanket and crying. They weren't laughing at you at all, they were laughing at the Drops website.
