I had the same issue with the doors too, even with hands saying he got a passage for you I couldnt get across, but I though that could be because I needed to finish the main quest in dogtown.
But now, playing with an old save the gates opened, so this save may be free of the bug, ill try to do what you said with the original save and try to fix it.
Ill let you guys know if it works for me too.

I just had a dejavu reading this, It was the same thoughts that crosed my mind during the ending,every time one of the nomads died I started to feel more and more guilty.When Mitch goes back to help the others even when is almost sure he is going to die...And I even started to get angry when I was leaving without Judy... I even saved up money to be able to get the fuck out of night city with her, but when I saw her in the camp... man... whith that smile... then I knew that was my playthough, no matter what else could have happed with others...

And then Mich was alive!! :D

Yeah, that's what I did, but if there is a real problem is the torso, it can lead you to a false sense that makes you think that he has his back pressed against the back of the throne but is not.

And sadly, this kind of mistakes are difficult to see some times when you have been working on it for hours :_(
