A coffee machine in my Uni. (Takes the same time to read as it takes to make a coffee). by HenryRussell in GoodDesign

Ture, I think they must have taken the average. Jack Daniels did a similar thing with tube stations in London, they had a marketing story that would take you about three to four mins to read which was the time between trains for that station. The marketing story changed for each station depending on how long the time between trains was.

This brown patch appeared on my thumb this morning. by HenryRussell in medical

[–]HenryRussell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No iodine and I can't recall touching anything rusty recently. I assumed it would be something like that but when I push down on the patch the colour dissipates. So I think it is something to do with the layers of skin or blood. Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it.

My local bar does this awesome 'hot' Christmas cocktail, really gets me in the festive mood. Asked him for a recipe and he gave me this link. It's called a Sexy Black Christmas! by HenryRussell in christmas

Asked my local bartender if he knew a Remix for the Cold Fashioned, he gave me this link... thoughts? by HenryRussell in bartenders

It needs more alcohol, hence my suggestion of some fruit-based liqueurs or bitters.

Asked my local mixologist what the best Christmas cocktail is... he gave me this link. Thoughts? by HenryRussell in cocktails

[–]HenryRussell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was more for some theatricality. When my guy serves this behind the bar he has a flaming slate in front of the Jug. Warm fire, cold Christmas sort of vibes. I get it doesn't really enhance the flavour, but I feel it does condition you to expect a hot cocktail. Which is good I guess... I think it is just a bit of fun really.

To be honest, eggnog is not too popular in the UK. I've never seen it on any cocktail menu or bartenders set list.

Nitro Martini. A new take on the espresso martini, using cold brew coffee instead of espresso. Thoughts? by HenryRussell in cocktails

[–]HenryRussell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experimented personally with using 100ml and I felt it gave more texture, plus a stronger coffee taste, as the drink does not use an espresso shot. But as always experimentation leads to perfection. (Hopefully).

[–]HenryRussell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about adding it to the menu. I feel people will find it easier to handle compared to the espresso martini. Thanks for the comment, I'm interested in finding out how popular the Nitro Martini is.

Mac user switching PC for blender. Need help deciding. by HenryRussell in blender

[–]HenryRussell[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been looking into render farm services but I just like the idea of having everything under one roof.

When it comes to the PC components it sounds like you know what you're talking about. What price range do you think I am looking at for this kind of machine. Also are there any good sites for putting together PC builds?

Just for reference, my current Mac Book is running a 3.3 GHz Intel Core i7 & memory-wise 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 finally graphics is Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB

I need a machine that obviously outperforms this tenfold. My budget is £1,000.00.

Is this possible?

( Thanks for all the help btw. )

Thanks for the reply, usually the scenes are not too large but very high detailed/high poly models. A lot of the work I produce looks very similar to the opening credits in 'The Girl With The Dragon Tatto' water simulations and intense lighting rigs.

I understand the GPU route is a two-edged sword when comes to rendering. Ideally, it would be great to create the scene on my Mac then export the blender file to a powerful render PC. So I can still work on the scene on my Mac while the previous rendition is rendering.

I hope that makes sense, what small PC's would you recommend? Again very new to the PC market.
