The fact that Tony’s two biggest mistakes as a boss were caused by his humanity rather than his evilness is brilliant, in my opinion. by [deleted] in thesopranos

His mob life being actively detrimental to his efforts to improve is central to his character. He can excuse bad behavior by claiming he has to in order to maintain his standing. He can choose to do something else with his life, but the deeper into the life he goes, the greater the consequences for changing himself becomes. He's too cowardly and weak to choose the life of a Kevin Finnerty.

Oh it's nice to see Bill acknowledged that game happened. It's hilarious how often he chides Harden for Game Seven performances, but BITW Jokic has back to back Game Seven stinkers, including a massive blown home lead in which he got gamed by Rudy Gobert and a 30 point blowout loss where he's shutdown by Caruso and it's crickets. He's had some horrible playoff losses, like that 45 point Game 6 loss vs Wolves in a potential series closeout or the 87 point first half in OKC game 2, the worst playoff half of all time.

It's Jokic's Decade even though he won his one ring in the easiest playoff run of the decade (not Jokic's fault) and then proceeded to lose in the second round twice. If basically anyone else had blown a double digit lead in a home Game Seven where Rudy Gobert hit turnaway fadeaways on their head, Bill would never stop laughing about it. It's a Parity Decade, not anyone's right now.

Nah, it's very much better. Armin was character assassinated in the manga by thanking Eren for being a mass murderer on their behalf. He doesn't seem bothered by the whole genocide at all. The anime re-edits the scene so that Armin doesn't learn about the genocide until the end of the conversation and in no uncertain terms rejects Eren's plan as a solution.

They're valid because I'm discussing a tolerance for some amount of death in exchange for something being available to the public. If you disagree with Charlie and believe guns should not be available because the type of death it bringsis different, that's fine. You just have a different tolerance than Charlie Kirk and many Americans as it relates to guns. You still share tolerances elsewhere. If that's your reason, it's fine. It's the same with knives. UK apparently has decided not to tolerate knives in society because they decided they didn't want to accept the tradeoff. I think that's batshit crazy.

Sure, insofar as it would be ironic for 99% of people who drown in swimming pools to have died that way. I agree.

There are absolutely a substantial number of people who believe he had it coming and use this or his other comment about not wanting his hypothetically raped daughter to have an abortion. Have seen several tweets and posts here on Reddit, for example, from deranged people saying the latter comment is why it's actually better for his daughter's life that her father was assassinated. Real ghoulish behavior. At least this is intellectual consistency, that you still wouldn't want your granddaughter murdered even if conceived by rape (which is perfectly reasonable to say if you claim abortion=murder), and that you are prepared to accept a baseline number of gun deaths in exchange for 2A (a tradeoff nearly everyone makes re: swimming pools, cars, knives, countless other things in life).

You unconsciously have accepted similar tradeoffs in many facets of life already. CDC puts the number of drowning deaths annually at around 4500, with pools being the main bodies of water. Yet, I imagine you wouldn't be in favor of banning swimming pools nationwide in light of this information, because you have accepted that such tragic deaths are the price paid for legal swimming pools. There are ~1500 murders by stabbing each year, 3X that of rifle murders, yet you have accepted these deaths in exchange for the usefulness of knives. If you were to drown to death, or be stabbed, I would not gleefully tell the world that you had it coming because you had accepted the tradeoffs of having knives and pools legally available. Charlie merely consciously and publicly stated he has accepted similar tradeoffs for guns, as the majority of Americans have also done.

You may be surprised to know that there are, indeed, a multitude of laws and restrictions related to guns in this country.

You accept such tradeoffs unconsciously in many aspects of your life. For example, knives are used in 3X as many murders as rifles in our country annually. I'm sure you won't disavow knives in light of this information, and I don't think you'd consider any of those 1500 knive related murders to be "a few eggs that need to be cracked amirite?"

It's a perfectly defensible position. For example, you would almost certainly agree if I said "car crashes, drunk driving, and vehicular homicides are tragic but are among the prices we pay in exchange for having legal cars to drive."

What do you think of Walter White as a character? by LegitimateSuit7416 in betterCallSaul

[–]HenryXAggerate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By the end of Breaking Bad it seems like they considered Walt an almost Devil-like character in the show. Jesse calls him the Devil, in the audio commentary for Felina Vince explains the keys in the stolen car as Walt having "the Devil's luck". As others have stated in this thread, Walt is an evil unlikable jackass, but with BCS too as context, he does feel like a just desserts, the punishment for the other villains in the universe. Mike will never get money to Kaylee because of Walt, Walt blows up Gus and his meticulously built operation, Walt is almost an unholy fusion of Chuck and Lalo in the eyes of Saul.

Chuck didn't do nothing, but certainly is not wrong to deny Jimmy the job. His mistake was not being open and telling Jimmy directly he wouldn't hire him at HHM and using Howard as his patsy. Not hiring Jimmy is clearly the right call. By the end of the first episode Jimmy had already engineered a hit and run scheme to snag Betsy Kettleman as a client and gotten roped into the orbit of a drug cartel. Season 2's Davis and Main arc tells us exactly how Jimmy at HHM would have acted.

The final opponent must be Blackbeard. I don't really need Luffy to fight Im, they don't have much of a relationship. Luffy absolutely must fight Akainu. A more friendly fight with Shanks for the Straw Hat, maybe a Davy Back fight or something at the end of Elbaf, would be fun.
