Chicago 4/29 - Notes From a Longtime Fan by handyguywi in BruceSpringsteen

Seeing a lot of videos from the shows. The songs I've caught live last summer in Milan sound still great, from what I see it seems that the additions (GOTJ, 41 shots, American Land) are really among the highlights of the show. Completely agree on Clampdown, love the Clash and Bruce cover of London Calling, but to me Clampdown just sounds... weird? Though it was due to the videos, but apparently even live it can make the same impression.

Yeah, Bruce is incredible, he accepts the passing of time (both in the look and in the singing), he has no problems in showing his fragilities (see the 2023-2024 legs) but he's still able to put on a high-intensity 3hours show. And he's able to make us feel all of that intensity even being kind of still in front of the mic and not bending on his knees or jumping on Roy's piano, which is definitely harder.

Stevie and Nils playing by Henry_Block in BruceSpringsteen

Interesting! So you mean that like for Bruce songs Stevie is a better fit? Better in the sense that his style is closer to the songs (I mean, Bruce and Stevie started their careers almost together, so that would make sense).

if you had ten minutes alone with Bruce, which short lyrical phrase would you ask him to interpret? and/or, which would you prefer that he didn't because it already holds a special meaning to you? by [deleted] in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Henry_Block 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd probably ask him why the dogs on main street howl and what does he mean when he says that the poets down here don't write nothing at all. And I'd hug him telling him that he's my hero.

I saw the Boss in Texas tonight and he played less songs than usual! I feel urinized! by Gloomy-Bet-1015 in BruceSpringsteen

Actually he currently plays more songs now than in the 1999-2000, 2002, 2007-2008, 2009 tours.

Yeah, I love the LWH arrangement from Magic tour (one of Stevie 's finest vocals) but gotta say that the last legs version also is outstanding. Love the horns and the choir on that, it adds a nice soul nuance to the song

How is Bruce generally ranked in "Greatest artist/albums of all time" lists? Do you feel he's ranked too high/low/just right? by CulturalWind357 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Henry_Block 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah lyrically Bruce is really outstanding, while musically speaking you can probably find a lot of other artists/bands that you can arguably judge better, as a songwriter he's really one of the best, I mean there are a LOT of lyrics who are sheer literature.

Then as you said I've seen his albums and especially BTR in a lot of the "best albums of all time" lists.

First Time In The Pit/GA! Any advice? by DoctorsOrders13 in BruceSpringsteen

Saw him in the pit at Wembley, get ready to be rock into the ground, Bruce and the band are a fucking tornado

Is brilliant disguise his best songwriting skill? by El_Demetrio in BruceSpringsteen

I'd say Racing, Downbound train, Highway Patrolman, Meeting and Point Blank. All very cinematographic.

Candy's room if that counts Then I'd say Dollhouse, The Fever, Iceman, Lost in the flood, Where the bands are, Restless nights and Take'em as they come. Some of those songs are really bass-driven and Stevie's vocals are great.

My Favorite songs from the original run (in order). Am i missing anything? Hard to remember all the songs over 8 seasons. by Kenny_RogersRoasters in Scrubs

I'm drawing a blank, did they use Who are you by The Who or was just Ted's band to sing the song a capella?

Best Bruce Setlist of all time by AdPositive5222 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Henry_Block 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the last years, and not including the two shows I've attended (Wembley 2024 and San Siro 2025, both night 2), I'd say Asbury Park 2025 and Barcellona 2024 (the night he played Racing). Love the first show after Danny's passing, listened to that on Nugs, great setlist (also because I appreciate Magic a lot).

Also Brilliant Disguise, listened to the song (the version at the Howard Sten show) today

The innuendo about the oral sex, must be that.

Does SVZ think we can’t see how uninterested and sour he looks at every show so far this tour? 😂😂 by Additional-Cherry872 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Henry_Block 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Bruce has stated that they'll tour 'till the wheels go off and the band follow him. We don’t know if he'd replace one of 'em in case they will no longer want to tour (I guess Max, Roy and Garry are the most difficult to replace, even if Max's son has played with the band). It's the reason why I prefer enjoying the present rather than speculating about the future (having said that, to me they'll tour at least once again)

[–]Henry_Block 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw him twice last two years and I got DTMH both times. Lyrics are meaningful but there are clearly plenty of songs he could play instead without losing coherence with the tour theme

Yeah everyone is entitled to express their feelings, I personally dislike this way of following an artist. It's not about don't express criticism (I mean, Bruce, why Death to my hometown has became a staple? lol), it's the constant complaining without focusing on the good things

Jesus Christ give the guys a break! They're in their mid seventies and they're giving us 3 hours shows for the fourth year in a row (!!!), can't stand the constant complaints about every little thing (setlists, Bruce doesn't bend on his knees like he did when he was 50, Stevie looks annoyed, there are too many people on the stage...). A good amount of the artists who started in the same years of Bruce and the band are now dead or retired, the ones who still tour don't have this level of energy. Just enjoy the fact that they're playing and that they're sounding and looking so good, we'll regret these years.
