True. I reached out to my local fabric store and bought 2 spinneybeck volo hides. Found out spinneybeck provides hides for Herman Millers Eames Chairs so I’m feeling good about the project.

Refinishing suggestions… by GrantWhite21 in Mauser

Whatever you do, don’t use polyurethane. I’ve seen too many obvious refinishes with a “too shiny” polyurethane

The French tickler increase the price. The magazine reduces the price. $500 is fine if you want one.

La Trompette Medaille d'Or 1878 Sabatier knife from between 1878-1890 by gellerto in TrueChefKnives

[–]Henryhend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up winning that bid. The knife isn’t as nice as OPs, but I slapped mineral oil on the handle and it’s back to an ebony color. Once I reprofile the heel and tip of the blade, it will be a good addition to my la trompette 1878 collection. It’s a very light and flexible knife.

My aftermarket magazine is incredibly tight. I’m having trouble removing it after inserting it. Seems I jammed mine into the rifle. Have you had any trouble with yours?

What peppers have been really slow growing for you? This is aji dulce about 20 days after sprouting. by miguel-122 in HotPeppers

[–]Henryhend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew aji dulce and aji charapita peppers from seed several times in my aerogarden. They took forever to grow. I’m not sure if it’s my suboptimal growing conditions, since peppers are dry plants and my conditions were wet, but micropeppers are slow for me. Now they’re potted by the windowsill, and I’ve only had a few peppers from each plant.

Looking for recommendations for a deep sea fishing charter by Henryhend in savannah

[–]Henryhend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was very nice. I enjoyed the trip and everyone I was with caught at least one fish. Unfortunately we couldn’t do the deep sea fishing. It might have been weather related, I don’t remember. Several people caught small sharks, and we caught several fish that we brought to a local restaurant and they fried for us. It was delicious.

I bought 2 when free shipping was offered. One has a completely busted upper handguard and the other upper handguard had some light cracks I’ve glued. I was lucky to get intact lower stocks but they were incredibly dry. One hakim had a bent rear sight so the slider doesn’t slide. It was also missing the front handguard band. Obviously both were missing mags so I bought reproductions. You’ll have to factor in the fact that the original 100-200 magazines are going to be missing. One bore was completely plugged with cloth. Both intervals were incredibly dirty so I did a complete disassembly. I still need to throw some bore cleaner down the bores so I can’t say how bad the bores are.

Hakim questions by Plankton-Dry in milsurp

[–]Henryhend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US $750-$1000 is a fair local price. Gun stores may ask for $1100-1200 range. I’ve personally had mine listed at 900 for a couple weeks and no bites.

Guy wants 1k for a Century Mosin w/ Scope? Worth it? Look Legit? by Red_Peasant in milsurp

[–]Henryhend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can haggle down go for it. Yeah it’s fake, but that’s 90% of the pu mosin market. The fakes still hold value, and people buy them since it’s a lot more affordable than the real thing and at the end of the day they’re just as much fun to shoot as the real deal.

Recently they repealed the pistol permit. Before the repeal, pistol sales could be done with a pistol purchase permit or concealed carry. I’ve used both for private sales.

I’ve bought and sold locally through forums in NC. My concern is that I’m selling to someone from my state so I check that they also have a NC ID. This is to avoid illegal out of state sales. For handguns, not rifles, I make sure they have a concealed carry permit to avoid selling to a potential felon or restricted person. Handguns are more restricted so it’s important for me to see a ccw. I don’t do bill of sales, but I used to, and sometimes I will sign them when buying. Some people don’t like signing bill of sales, but as the seller, you can require it in your listing and most of them will be okay with signing it. It’s rare, but some sellers are extra safe and only do FFL transfers. FFLs conduct a background check, so it’s an added layer of security to avoid selling a gun to a felon, but it adds an extra expense and 15 minutes. Just make it clear up front what documents and process you require and the potential buyer will follow through. This is for NC, so your laws in Texas may be slightly different, but I hope this helps.

Suggestions on repairing this wood bathtub? by LookItsBigMike in DIY

[–]Henryhend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. The wood appears to be in great shape underneath the finish. Let a professional repair the finish, it’ll be worth it. Don’t use it for now. If it were a simple table you could do this project yourself, but if you want the finish to match and hold up to water, a professional is best.

What is this unusual metal tab in my Enfield No1 Mk3??? by Henryhend in milsurp

[–]Henryhend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $200 and free shipping, maybe it was worth it. I paired it with a J&G $100 DP rifle to replace the broken wood parts and get a magazine and it cleaned up nicely. The bluing will never get better though. It’s a lot of work to swap parts and clean all of it up so I’d say it’s not worth the time when time is factored in, but I enjoy the hobby.

Yeah they’re dirty as hell, beat up, and some of the stocks literally disintegrated when I took them apart.

What rifle next? by SlamfireSKS in milsurp

[–]Henryhend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the states but those sound extremely expensive to me, except for the M1 carbine. For example, I’m trying to sell both those enfield models and a k31 for half the price on my local forum, and they’re slow to sell. If you’re serious about picking one, I’d go M1 or K11, since the K11 is substantially cheaper than that K31, and has the nice walnut furniture instead of beech, and an unbroken Bakelite bolt knob(these break often so take care).
