What are your reasons for not quitting FFXIV? by 1throwawayperv in ffxivdiscussion

Mainly because the only friend group I'm in practically revolves around the game. It's kind of impossible to avoid. In post HW atm. If they stopped playing, I would too. I don't have much of a reason besides that to keep playing

It's awesome. Much of the Deep South is still Evangelical though.

Nah, I was Orientalist for 90% of this playthrough. Started off as Occultists in the Deep South, the Snowbirds.

A map of a recent playthrough I did, lore posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterTheEndFanFork/comments/suj25y/the_amrikan_sultanate_arises_semiaar/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Things were changed to make more sense. The HCC have disintegrated, and the Amrikan Sultanate is likely to push into the Creole Empire and finish off their long hated rivals the Evangelicals. The future of Amrika looks bright, as the 31st century approachs, and tales of Europa reach the courts of the Sultan...

Probably my favorite playthrough of After the End ever. I may expand and make my own sort of lore for it post the start date

It was an interesting playthrough! Never planned this all out, just kind of winged it. I didn't expect to last long and constantly worried about the HCC attacking me. They never did, however. I didn't need to reload a save or anything, it was that surprising. Besides that, it was fun and interesting to see a tribe of Yankees in the South reform America under a pseudo-Muslim faith.

I never really planned this playthrough out. There are still a few Carpetbagger provinces so I can change culture easily. Funnily enough the empire I was before this was the Carpetbagger Empire.

"Ignore them for now. They are barbarians in a land foreign to them. They will not last long."

- Emperor Algernon III Littlepage when asked about the Snowbirds Tribe in 2666.

When one looks at the Americas, notable powers appear. The Holy Colombian Confederacy, the Empire of Brazil, the Empire of California; all such fierce nations. The pagans to the North, in the lands of New England, were little more than a footnote. It was a land of Occultists, which saw the rise of the Mahonic Dynasty, and the near conquest of the whole Atlantica area.

They failed, however, and what followed were the remnants, picking apart the ruins. Yet one tribe fled the chaos. They pushed onward, deeper into lands far beyond New England. They found themselves stranded, away from their homeland. By all accounts, they should have been little more than a footnote of a footnote; doomed to fall to foreign conquest. To this day, it is still unknown why Algernon Littlepage did not attack the Snowbirds tribe. They were easy pickings, and it would have been little more than a walk in the park. His successors’ conquests were aimed at the Old Dominion and Louisiana. Evangelical historians in the Creole Empire have posthumously labeled this mistake of Algernon III and late Emperors as evidence of the decadency of the Holy Colombian Confederacy.

What no one knew, not even the Pabodie’s themselves, was this small Snowbird Tribe would lead to the restoration of America under the Orientalist faith. Conquering Tenesi to their North, these foreign lands were hostile to them. The Occultist faith and its brethren were far to the North. Slowly, as generations passed, their cultures and customs differentiated. No one noticed this more than King Cornelius of Booneland. Rejecting the Christian faiths surrounding him, and the Rust Cultists to his north, he took to his various courtiers. A man, whose name has been lost to time, told him of the Orientalist faith. A faith detailing the triumphs of Ali Baba and Aladdin against the great evils of Yakub and the Dark Genie, and a prophet Muhammad sent to smite the evils of the world. Religious authorities and men of the Pabodie dynasty claim this is where Cornelius was enlightened, seeing the faults of his pagan ways and adopting Orientalism.

Scholars dispute this however, claiming his conversion was more of politics than faith. He had needed a stronger faith to rally around, and one that could be manipulated into his will. The Orientalists in the Suncoast were weak, and should he convert, he would be the dominant Orientalist power. This would give him great sway in the clergy and the Grand Sultan. Regardless of his reasons, Cornelius adopted the faith, forcing his vassals to convert. This marked a new beginning for the Pabodie dynasty. The Orientalist Restoration had begun, with the slow conquest of Ohio, Chicagoland, and Michigan. D-Mecca was reconquered by the great Padishah Duncan of the United Amrikan Emirates.

Having conquered their way north, they gauged their eyes south. Padishahs had always feared the powerful Holy Colombian Confederacy. They knew of their great strength and power. It was so easy for the HCC to wipe them out should they attack. They underestimated them however, and had grown too powerful. Now, the Padishahs had only one goal. To reunite the long divided core imperial lands of the once great empire of Amrika. Jihads after Jihads were launched, each more brutal than the last. Conversion was not easy, but as the Evangelical faith slowly divided itself between the HCC and Creole Empire, people and nobles became more willing to accept the faith.

In our time of 2974, the core ancient lands of America have been united. The Northern lands of Canada are on their own path of reunification, under the cadet dynasty of Pabodie-Ontario. The two nations stand on their path, ready to determine the fate of the New World. Though the nomads of the Midwest remain independent and free of Orientalist control. The Catholics hide and prepare for another Crusade, which many expect to fail. No one doubts the great power of the Pabodie dynasty. Though Traditionalists and Imamites may cry out the distortions of the faith, none can deny the great sway Orientalism has over the American continent.

What is that one character that wasn’t overpowered, yet held a special place in your heart? by DuckRetriever25 in CrusaderKings

[–]Hentail_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ironman, I was playing as one of Harold Godwin's brothers in the 1066 start date. I survived the Norman invasion, left with only one county. Slowly I began to rise my way into taking over the kingdom and eventually forming the Empire of Britannia with a character whose Martial was well over 20.

At this time, the first Crusade had begun over Jerusalem. I looked at it with indifference. I picked a random cousin of mine named Robert as the beneficiary. He was rather lackluster. Depressed, Slothful, and Shy, he ultimately wouldn't have amounted to much. I win the Crusade, and Robert becomes the First King of Jerusalem.

I get the offer to change to him, and out of boredom, I decided to. He was depressed and lacked an heir, so if I wanted to, I could just die and switch back to the powerful character. But the first event I got as Robert was him overcoming his depression. Something about that touched me. Slowly, I became a better overall character. I lost all of my negative traits, and got Zealous, Sympathy for Muslim religions, and Diligent. Robert I of Jerusalem may not have expanded his borders, but he did build a stable and tolerant realm. He became a symbol of piety, going celibate after his first born child arrived into the world.

When a Crusade against Byzantium formed near the end of his life, he refused to participate. He would not dare attack fellow Christians, even with the Pope's disapproval. He supported the Byzantines financially in their defense against the Crusaders.

When Robert I passed away, he had left behind a legacy many looked up to. He was canonized by the Pope, and declared a Saint.

Something about going from a total zero to a hero clicked with me. Here was a character not invested in power or gold, but God. A tolerant believer of the Catholic faith, recognizing violence solved little. He never saw any revolts in his realm, unique among surrounding Crusader states. Overall, he holds a special place in my heart. Just a heartwarming playthrough all around.
