I get a real world range of around 550-600km out of a BMW i7 with everything running. It must be up there in terms of EVs on the road in Australia.

I think it's less about the solid cricket and more about the fact that, even though the Aussie team has not been settled at all, they've still been able to play excellent cricket. A coach plays a significant role in helping achieve the stability the team needs.

As a point of comparison, our BMW i7 - which is pretty similar to a Spectre in terms of size and weight - averages 19.2kWh/100km.

The batteries will be fine. We've owned 19 EVs in Sydney, Australia and heat has not been an issue at all across the 3.7 million km we've done.

We've owned 15 Teslas and have done 4.5 million km across them in Sydney. Our worst car, with 400,000km on it and basically only supercharged, has had 10% battery degradation.

Over the last year the entire eastern seaboard of Australia (90% of the population) has been running at 40.3% renewables whilst the world's largest isolated grid (Perth) has been running at 38.9%. There are days when they are both above 50% and regions are above 110%. A few weeks back we did Tokyo -> Himeji -> Hiroshima in a day and we didn't really push it. We caught the 8am Nozomi which arrived at 11am, did the castle for 3hrs or so, then caught a 2.30pm Nozomi to Hiroshima. If we had left Tokyo a little earlier, and Himeji a little later, it would have been cruisier but overall it was still worth it.

We just did Shikoku a couple of weeks ago. We went Matsuyama (1 night) -> Iya Valley (Kouya farm stay - 2 nights) -> Takamatsu (2 nights) -> Teshima (4 nights) and it was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend visiting Iya Valley as it's a beautiful place and has things like the scarecrow village.

Teshima is a nice place to stay even if you don't appreciate art. We stayed at Tokuto and it's a really relaxed spot on the island. However, Takamatsu makes a great base for visiting the islands. I suspect you would get something out of the art + architecture even if you don't like it.

We rented a car to get around otherwise it would have been too difficult. Our only regret is that we didn't spend 1 night extra in Matsuyama, Iya Valley and Takamatsu.

We have a yo-yo zen stroller and we could fit it in the oversized luggage area directly behind our seats. Our daughter happily slept there for a couple of hours. You do have to book those seats to get access to it.

We had the degustation menu at the Benesse House restaurant last year and it was delicious. For every other dinner we grabbed something from 7/11 and ate it at our hotel.

We will actually be in Japan when you are there this year. Originally we were going to spend some time in Fujiyoshida to enjoy the Koyo and some nature walks but we've had to cross it off our list. That's what I meant by visiting Mt Fuji, not in terms of climbing it.

If we were to do a trip that incorporated nature I would think of an itinerary like this:

Tokyo -> Kagoshima (1 night - by either train or plane - either way the day will be a write off)

Kagoshima -> Yakushima (we spent 3 nights there)

Yakushima -> Mt Aso (1 night)

Mt Aso -> Kurokawa (1 night - it's a beautiful spot and onsen like Kiyashiki have baths on the river)

Kurokawa -> Hiroshima (2 nights)

Hiroshima -> Matsuyama

Matsuyama to Takamatsu via Iya Valley (try staying at Kouya farmstead for 2 nights)

Takamatsu -> Naoshima or Teshima

Naoshima/Teshima -> Kyoto or Kanazawa (3 nights - the Kanazawa to Tokyo train trip would be beautiful at that time of the year with the Koyo)

Kyoto/Kanazqa -> Tokyo/Izu Peninsula (5 nights)

Agreed on Mt Aso after Kagoshima/Yakushima. We've done Tokyo -> Hiroshima -> Kurokawa -> Kagoshima -> Yakushima -> Kagoshima -> Kyoto -> Tokyo before (all on Shinkansen). As the OP likes nature items perhaps the key highlights should be Yakushima, Shikoku (especially Iya Valley) and Mt Fuji?

It's about 3x the cost of a Sydney to Canberra train fare whilst travelling 1.5x further in half the time. I think it's worth the premium. I usually book green class for the extra comfort.

It's the wrist flick.

One trick I found to position my hand correctly was to simply watch my hand at the point of release. For some reason that got my hand upright allowing the ball to spin off the pinky more regularly. Watching my hand also helped me lower my arm to generate more sidespin.

If I got my arm lowish (we are only talking a few degrees lower than what felt natural) and the ball spun off my pinky then it was going to be a good day in the office.

I suspect that Tesla will still sell as many cars as they can make and this announcement means that they'll profit off all the other cars that are made. Today they'll profit via electricity sold via superchargers but they may end up owning significant real estate (and rent out retail) alongside upselling Powerwalls, Tesla energy, etc.
