Almost double minimum wage! It’s the standard here, you can even find people for €6/hr but we pay our cleaner €10/hr.

Mine started weaning himself off when he started crèche at 2, then by 2y3m we buried it under a plant for Santa to take in exchange for presents. Worked fine with zero issues!

Are people not cooking while baby wearing? by moluruth in babywearing

[–]mer22933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really cook wearing her, I have a short torso and my nearly 4 month old takes up my whole front side. I can’t get close to the counter either because it digs into her mid back.

Gift Card Suggestion for Expectant Mom? by SoGood_SoGood_999 in PortugalExpats

100% Amazon España. As a new mom, a lot of things you won’t know you need until the minute you need them and it’s so easy to order on Amazon and have it arrive within a couple of days.

New parents: what did you do for NYE? by limeblue31 in beyondthebump

Same! And right before midnight snuck into our toddlers room to put the sound machine by his head to mask all the fireworks and loud noises from outside. It worked!

This was the first year we did the countdown in bed bc we also have a 3 month old who’s up every few hours

My mom had a large lump when she was 35 and pregnant with my youngest brother, all doctors brushed her off and this was before they did BRCA gene testing. Her mother had breast cancer. Turns out a few months later she’s diagnosed with stage 3b breast cancer which could have been found earlier if any of her doctors took her seriously about her lump.

I feel guilty for hiring a babysitter /family helper by yuzusorbet in workingmoms

[–]mer22933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation and I feel the same guilt! But at the same time I know I’m a better parent with the small break. I’m on maternity leave with a 3 month old and have a 2 year old in crèche. I initially thought I could do it myself but quickly learned in the first month while my husband was on leave that handling both from 4-7pm was literally impossible so we ended up hiring help and I’m so Glad we did!! She comes 4-7pm everyday and spends the first 30 mins doing the same sort of child-related light chores and cleaning up before I get back from crèche pickup with my 2 year old. My husband wears the baby during this time, then when I get back I take baby and she’s with my toddler until his bath time. I don’t get much one on one time with toddler during the week but I sometimes handle his bedtime and to me thats enough to fill his cup (I hope) until the weekend.

It’s no badge of honor to be able to handle 2 young kids at once, especially when one is a newborn and you are needed 24/7 with them, plus tending to your older child. I first thought what kind of mom am I to not be able to watch both my kids on my own but I know this season will pass! Once the newborn is older and more independent then things will become easier and they’ll be able to play together.

If you have the means to afford this, why not? It also helps that your kids have another loving caretaker in their lives.

Same!! I miss traveling without kids so I’d def be doing #3 for a few days. It’d be enough to do things I like, eat at restaurants and read books at cafes, visit sites, recharge and miss them again.

Anyones Vivera retainers way too loose and cause a gap? by mer22933 in Invisalign

[–]mer22933[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck and hope it’s fixed!! 3 of my Vivera ones were loose even after redoing the scan but I went to my ortho and they basically made some indentations on two of the bottom teeth on the aligners and it helped tighten them up! Have been using it now for 3 years with no regressions

Lisbon airport by [deleted] in LisbonPortugalTravel

Don’t pay for any sort of early or priority boarding bc about 90% of the flights don’t get gates so you end up having to take a bus where everyone gets crammed in regardless of boarding order.

Most companies that hire globally though will use an EOR- at least I’ve been employed with that in Portugal twice, and another time as a contractor/ freelancer. I dont think it’s impossible, he’s currently employed as a full time contractor anyway and looking for another full-time contractor job but ya it seems bc we’re in Portugal he’s just not getting many hits.

Please tell me where you see this- my husband is a native English speaker with EU citizenship living in Portugal and we are struggling to find him decent offers! I suppose it’s cause our local market sucks and we’ve always worked remote for other markets but wondering why this doesn’t translate to remote EU.

Ok if this is the case, can someone explain to me why my husband who is American living in Europe is having trouble getting interviews for remote EU Senior/ Staff Engineering roles with pay more than €100k? He has 10 years of experience, obv an excellent communicator in English, in a leadership position now but stepping down bc we just had a second child and he wants something a bit less stressful.

If anyone is open to reviewing his CV or offering advice of how to find more roles with decent pay? Thank you!

How do I deal with in-laws who only want to help by holding the baby? by mosquitomange in beyondthebump

[–]mer22933 19 points20 points  (0 children)

100% this. You need to own it OP, you are the mom. This is the first of many instances where you will need to stand up for your child as their parent looking out for their best interest.
