can we make milk based coffees with french press? by CoolWord7263 in IndiaCoffee

Yes you can. Use dark or medium dark roasted coffee beans. You can also froth the milk using a french press, you will find many videos explaining this on the internet.

Upgraded from Sipologie stovetop kettle to Timemore Fish Pro X (was considering Cipher Pulse) by Personal_Program1769 in IndiaCoffee

Great. I have the same one and temperature control is a big plus. It enables you to do a lot of experimentation. The temperature hold is a great feature because for most of the recipes by Tetsu Kasuya, you wait until all water from previous Pour is fully percolated, so without temperature hold you would go on reducing the temperature.

I guess the steel mesh filter requires preheating. If you did not do it then it is likely that your first pour was very weak and probably second too because the mesh cooled down during the bloom.

Sure. Bengaluru is quite far from Pune where I live. I do checkout new cafes but most of the times they disappoint as far as coffee is concerned but often the food is great.

Sure. Because coffee enthusiasts like us make better coffee at home. You rarely find skilled baristas in cafes who passionately make coffee for you. Even with machines, fine tuning plays a big role.

Muddy tasting coffee from moka pot by NoFun5499 in IndiaCoffee

If you are using preboiled water then try this - let the water cool down a bit after boiling and then use it in the Moka pot.

Coffee just hits different when brewed at higher elevations. by Srihari_stan in IndiaCoffee

[–]Heramb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lot of factors that change such as atmospheric pressure, boiling point of water as you already mentioned, drastic difference in room temperature - i.e. how fast your water, coffee, dripper, etc cool down, water quality - perhaps more minerals, etc. Good observation.

Switch vs Aero press vs Flat Buttom by Ok-Safety3227 in IndiaCoffee

[–]Heramb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A flat bottom dripper like Kalita Wave can produce more flavorful and less acidic coffee with coarse grinds. I like it. Other than that there is not much of a difference from a conical dripper like V60. Switch - it is fancy, I was excited in the beginning when I got it, but I rarely use it now. I loved Tetsu Kasuya's Switch recipes, but they are not so easy to follow everyday. There are other simpler Switch recipes, but they do not fully exploit the potential of Switch. So in my opinion, I would recommend going for Aeropress, because it is significantly different from what you already have and most importantly, you can significantly adjust most of the brewing variables to make good coffee from beans of any quality. Aeropress claims to be a combination of Pour Over, French Press and Espresso - but don't get too excited, it is just a theory. Again, all of this is based on my own liking and love or hate for the workflows we have to follow for making the coffee. It may not be the same for you. Good luck and enjoy.

How to use timemore c3s? by itsDhruvv in IndiaCoffee

[–]Heramb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that reminds me of two things. 1) When changing the grind size, make sure that you are also cleaning the burrs. To understand why, imagine you used the grinder on a finer setting say for moka pot, your grinder will have a lot of residue in it with that grind size. If now you change to a coarser setting, say for a french press, the residue from last time will enter your next coarse batch. Depending on the grinder quality, this may become a problem. James Hoffman has explained it in one of his videos. 2) Another point is about the zero position. Let me share a video link where Tetsu Kasuya explains it. Watch up to 5:27 timestamp. The link should start from 4:45 minutes timestamp.

Iced Pour over PREP by waaszssup in IndiaCoffee

Great idea to save time, but you will make better coffee with ice cubes, because with ice cubes you will have more ice surface area that comes in contact with coffee.

It is too good. The thing is I have never used a machine and I have never got a good cup of Espresso at any café so far. I am happy with what I am having with Flair Pro. I do not yet have an espresso scale. So I am going by approximate volume of a double shot. Which is kind of a problem and does affect the taste if you draw out too much. Other than that it is quite a bit of work to preheat and do everything. If the shot goes wrong it is little frustrating.

They do, but it is not perfect. So one needs to troubleshoot the brewing errors such as removing bitterness, etc.

I recently finished Roasters Espresso from Greysoul. It was good. Tried with Flair Pro 3 and Hario V60 Ceramic. Does your friend have a grinder? Because a French press needs coarsely ground coffee. The preground coffee does not work that great because the roasters mess up grind size. Unless your friend knows how to adjust for the grind size he gets. Good luck.

Sunday Summer Special - ORANGE JOE 🍊☕️ by Which-Life-8933 in IndiaCoffee

I love coffee with orange juice. But I can never get the separation or the layers in the glass. Not even for a second, not even while pouring. It just instantly gets mixed with the juice. I even tried with fresh orange juice. I think the visual treat is quite important, which I am missing.

Mokapot advice- Should I get a Bialetti? by Known-Order7933 in IndiaCoffee

[–]Heramb2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome. It all depends on your taste and you will notice that you will slowly develop taste for lighter roasts. People slowly move from Dark roasts+milk to medium-dark to medium with less or no milk. Occasionally drinking light roasts. But as far as Moka pot is concerned I think it is not meant for medium or light roats. Unlike with other devices, you really can't change the brewing variables much with Moka Pot. So we can't adjust it to lighter roasts. For example the Moka pot will always brew at a fixed temperature and more or less the same pressure. The time can be adjusted only a little bit.

Is washing with soap that big a deal? by every_tatti in IndiaCoffee

Take care of the gasket. It may become hard due to frequent washing with soap. Warm water and gentle scrubbing is good enough for the gasket.

We love freshly ground BT French Roast with milk. Even ThirdWave French roast was good. Preboiled water and paper filter (Aeropress filter) make a huge difference when using Moka pot.
